Skyblivion Devs Share Second Quest Showcase Ahead of 2025 Release

Highlights

  • Skyblivion devs give a fresh look at Oblivion’s town of Chorrol and quests, revamping the game’s outdated graphics.
  • The showcase demonstrates how questing is handled in the remake.
  • Skyblivion aims to feature every item from Oblivion with a 2025 release date, with DLC remasters planned after.

As a seasoned gamer who’s been traversing the vast landscapes of Tamriel since the days of Arena, I have to say that the latest showcase for Skyblivion has left me absolutely thrilled. It’s like revisiting an old friend, but this time with a fresh coat of paint and a hearty dose of nostalgia.

Recently unveiled video clips of the fan-created version of Oblivion in Skyrim, known as Skyblivion, provided fans with an updated glimpse into the mod’s development ahead of its anticipated release in 2025.

The showcase included a deeper look into Skyblivion’s world, particularly Oblivion‘s town of Chorrol, and some questing.

Under the leadership of Rebelzize, the development team chose to update The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by utilizing the 13-year-old engine from Skyrim. This was a significant enhancement since visuals have not been one of Oblivion’s key strengths.

As the main character journeys through the game, the vivid hues, reminiscent illumination, and ambiance create an inviting yet improved revisit to the land of Cyrodiil, a location last seen in the game Oblivion 18 years ago.

In the two side-missions presented, “Fingers of the Mountain” and “The Killing Field,” it’s evident that the revamp is complex because each small quest has been entirely reworked. Witnessing Oblivion’s quests in the Skyrim engine raises doubts about Skyrim’s role-playing game capabilities.

As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I must admit that the demonstration was undeniably remarkable, yet it didn’t escape my observant gaze that it carried a few familiar Bethesda quirks, which only eagle-eyed gamers like myself could spot.

As a seasoned Elder Scrolls player with countless hours spent roaming the lands of Tamriel, I can confidently say that this volunteer-driven project is nothing short of remarkable. The team has painstakingly recreated and updated every armor, weapon, interactable item, and clutter detail from Oblivion’s remastered version, all in line with Elder Scrolls lore. If it was in Oblivion, it’s here – and then some, making it an absolute treasure trove for players embarking on their hundredth playthrough. The level of dedication and passion these volunteers have put into this project is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!

The exact launch date for Skyblivion isn’t set yet, however, it is anticipated that the main game will come out around the year 2025. Afterward, there are plans to release DLC remasters.

Bethesda’s Modding Community Are Something Else

Skyblivion Devs Share Second Quest Showcase Ahead of 2025 Release

Skyblivion has been under development for quite some time now. The direct port project began in 2012, and a remaster followed in 2016. Over these years, numerous mods focusing on overhaul have been released, each pushing the boundaries of what Bethesda games can achieve as complete engines.

Modders consistently elevate games like Skyrim’s Falskaar and Moonpath, Elsweyr, Fallout: New Vegas’ The Frontier, and most recently, Fallout 4’s Fallout: London, reaching new peaks with each new edition.

The accomplishment of Fallout: London is especially impressive because it quickly shot to the top as GOG’s most rapidly downloaded game within a day, thus elevating its creators from being modders to contenders in the independent development scene.

Previously achieved victories were merely expansion pack-scale, but Skyblivion vows to deliver a full-fledged game, demonstrating the impressive adaptability of Bethesda’s games.

It’s possible that Bethesda could share more information about Elder Scrolls: VI before the release of Skyblivion, so keep your fingers crossed!
