As a seasoned adventurer with years of delving into the mystical realms of Tamriel under my belt, let me guide you through the quest for the Dragon Claws in Skyrim.
In the tombs of Skyrim, there are many secrets just waiting to be uncovered. Some of the most valuable treasures are hidden behind sturdy stone doors that can’t be broken down by force. Instead, you’ll need to solve a puzzle first – it involves finding a specific sequence of animals. On top of that, you’ll also need a physical key to insert into the door before the treasure is revealed.
What should the Dragonborn do next? The solutions to these puzzles are hidden within a set of jeweled artifacts called Dragon Claws. While they might not be worth much individually, they frequently lead to bigger prizes. To advance in the related dungeon, obtaining the correct Dragon Claw is essential, making their discovery highly significant.
11 The Golden Claw
The First Dragon Claw The Dragonborn Can Get
- Location: Bleak Falls Barrow, west of Riverwood, on the corpse of Arvel The Swift
- Associated Quest: “Bleak Falls Barrow” & “The Golden Claw”
- Solution: Bear, Moth, Owl
In “The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim,” it’s very likely that the Golden Claw is the first claw you’ll stumble upon. Your initial visit to the Riverwood Trader triggers Lucan Valerius, the owner, to share his recent misfortune. It seems some thieves burglarized his shop and made off with his prized Golden Claw.
1) To give Lucan the Golden Dragon Claw, one must navigate the perils of Bleak Falls Barrow. The artifact lies with Arvel the Swift once you rescue him from a spider’s web. This untrustworthy character will attempt to escape but is usually killed by aggressive draugr shortly after. You can then take the Golden Claw from his remains and deliver it to Lucan for a compensation. The Golden Dragon Claw is worth 100 Gold Coins, which may seem meager to seasoned players who are deep into the game, but considering it’s available early on, it’s a substantial sum. When they open the door designed for the Dragon Claw, players can sell it and use the gold to purchase armor, ammunition, or improved weapons.
10 The Sapphire Claw
A Just Reward For Solving A Mystery
- Location: Ivarstead, Vilemyr Inn, given as a reward by Wilhelm
- Associated Quest: “Lifting the Shroud”
- Solution: Moth, Owl, Wolf
Chatting with Wilhelm, the friendly tavern owner in Ivarstead, might reveal some peculiar events taking place within the town. According to him, a specter from the Shroud Hearth Barrow nearby seems to be troubling the village during the night hours. Naturally, the Dragonborn could opt to look into this mysterious situation.
Initially, I thought there was an actual ghost lurking around this place, just like Wilhelm suggested. But upon encountering and vanquishing the entity, it turned out to be none other than Wyndelius Gatharian – a treasure hunter disguised as a spirit, driven mad by his pursuit of wealth within these barrows. Revealing the truth to Wilhelm will earn me the Sapphire Dragon Claw, a prize worth 500 Gold and one of the most precious artifacts in the entire game.
9 The Emerald Claw
One Of The Few Dragon Claws That Are Easy To Obtain
- Location: Reachwater Rock, southeast of Markarth, sitting atop a podium
- Associated Quest: “Forbidden Legend”
- Solution: Bear, Whale, Snake
Unlike other claws that can be hard to obtain, the Emerald Dragon Claw, essential for the “Forbidden Legend” mission, is surprisingly accessible. This valuable item becomes crucial towards the conclusion of the quest, as it’s required to unlock a sequence of doors in the final stages.
You’ll come across the Emerald Dragon Claw not long after you enter Reachwater Rock. In the main area of the room, you’ll find a pedestal and a fallen adventurer nearby. The claw can be picked up from this pedestal, which you’ll need to use later to open the first door.
8 The Ebony Claw
A Sneaky Claw, Hiding In Plain Sight
- Location: Korvanjund, northeast of Whiterun, laying in front of the puzzle door in Korvanjund Halls
- Associated Quest: “The Jagged Crown”
- Solution: Fox, Moth, Dragon
In the game ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’, the tension between the Imperials and Stormcloaks is significant. Regardless of which faction the Dragonborn aligns with, it becomes evident that both want to possess the Jagged Crown, an old Nordic artifact resembling a crown. The quest for this crown, along with the Ebony Claw, requires traversing to Korvanjund.
In time, the player will encounter a Nordic puzzle door that halts their advance in the tomb. Fortunately, the essential claw for solving the riddle lies concealed at the base of the door, camouflaged among ordinary objects. As usual, examining the engraving on the claw will provide the answer to the conundrum. Though it may not glimmer like other items in the game crafted from supposedly more valuable substances, this Ebony Dragon Claw is worth a substantial 800 Gold, which equates to a sizable fortune and can be exchanged for an array of goods once the connected door has been unlocked.
7 The Glass Claw
Needed To Open The Tomb Of One Of The Most Infamous Dragon Priests To Have Ever Existed
- Location: Forelhost, southeast of Riften, sitting atop a pedestal in Forelhost Refectory
- Associated Quest: “Siege on the Dragon Cult”
- Solution: Fox, Owl, Snake
In days long past, dragons held dominion over the land of Skyrim with a firm hand. These fearsome creatures were revered by a zealous priesthood, some of whom continue to exist in an unnatural state as undead. Forelhost serves as the final resting place of Rahgot, a notoriously brutal Dragon Priest who once demanded his devoted followers to carry out a mass, ritualistic suicide.
To claim the villain’s mask and the mysterious Glass Claw, adventurers must first navigate through hordes of skeletal creatures residing there. The Glass Claw is found in the Refectory, perched on a pedestal. This artifact is crucial for solving the puzzle that opens the door to Rahgot’s tomb. Prepare yourself, as vanquishing such immense evil seldom comes without challenge or struggle. Players will need to evade Rahgot’s attacks and deal some damage, all while managing encounters with Draugr Deathlords. A strategic approach would involve staying patient, having a decent Health stat, and wielding powerful weapons in this demanding scenario.
6 The Ruby Claw
Part Of A Harsh Requirement To Join The Bards College
- Location: Dead Men’s Respite, southwest of Morthal, sitting on a table shortly after entering the ruin
- Associated Quest: “Tending the Flames”
- Solution: Wolf, Hawk, Wolf
Being a bard in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim could potentially put you in risky situations. For instance, getting into the Bards College requires you to explore an ancient ruin and retrieve a legendary poem that was believed to be long-lost for centuries – a task that’s not as easy as gaining entry to the Companions!
The poem, known as the Poetic Edda, can be found in Dead Man’s Respite. One of the first items that greets the player inside the tomb is the Ruby Dragon Claw, which is needed once the Dragonborn reaches the end of the dungeon. A word of warning, though. Picking up the claw will trigger a draugr ambush.
5 The Coral Claw
Can Be Obtained In More Than One Way
- Location: Winterhold, purchased from Birna OR Yngol Barrow, sitting on a table
- Associated Quest: “Yngol’s Barrow”
- Solution: Snake, Wolf, Moth
In simpler terms, there’s a woman named Birna who runs a pawn shop in Winterhold and she appears to be going through tough economic times. She casually mentions that her business is struggling financially. Interestingly, Birna owns a Coral Dragon Claw which she considers worthless. She’s willing to part with it for 50 gold pieces if the player is interested.
An alternative way to get the Coral Dragon Claw is by skipping the conversation with Birna and venturing into Yngol’s Barrow. Inside the dungeon, you’ll find the claw resting on a pedestal without having to spend 50 Gold. Regardless of the method chosen, both ways lead to unlocking the valuable treasure hidden in Yngol’s Barrow. If players prefer to save some money or enjoy exploring, then choosing this path might be more appealing; however, is it worth traveling such a distance just to save a small amount?
4 The Iron Claw
Found Amid A Heroic Effort To Keep An Ancient Evil Contained
- Location: Valthume, southeast of Markarth, resting atop a booby-trapped pedestal in the Catacombs
- Associated Quest: “Evil in Waiting”
- Solution: Dragon, Hawk, Wolf
“Valthume is another tomb from the Nordic region that’s home to an ancient evil. This tomb is where Hevnoraak, a captivating Dragon Priest, lies buried. He had a large number of devoted followers under his control. A spirit named Valdar will ask the Dragonborn for help in keeping this menace under control.
Assisting Valdar is a prolonged journey that unfolds across the entirety of the dungeon. One location the Dragonborn must explore is the Catacombs, which are teeming with Draugr and spiders. Perched on a trap-laden pedestal is the Iron Claw; displacing it will cause nearby statues to ignite, sending flames bursting forth.
3 The Ivory Claw
Easy To Obtain, As Unfortunate As The Situation Around Its Finding Is
- Location: Folgunthur, southeast of Solitude, on the corpse of Daynas Valen
- Associated Quest: “Forbidden Legend”
- Solution: Hawk, Hawk, Dragon
The claw in question is linked to the mission titled “Forbidden Legend.” Finishing this quest involves quite a bit of journeying, and the initial destination for the player should be Folgunthur, situated south of Solitude. Upon arrival, it becomes evident that the player isn’t the first one attempting to delve into the tomb.
The Ivory Dragon Claw, previously owned by adventurer Daynas Valen, is now deceased. You can locate Valen’s corpse after climbing the central staircase. Remarkably, the claw remains on his person and will undoubtedly be essential for a comprehensive exploration of Folgunthur.
2 The Diamond Claw
Found In An Area That Can Only Be Visited Once In The Game
- Location: Skuldafn, specifically Skuldafn Temple, on the corpse of a leveled draugr
- Associated Quest: “The World-Eater’s Eyrie”
- Solution: Fox, Moth, Dragon
The Diamond Claw resides in an exceptionally unique spot – it’s found within Skuldafn, a destination that can be accessed solely during the principal storyline. Skuldafn is teeming with Alduin’s followers, which include both draugr and dragons.
initiate the journey in Skuldafn Temple first. Navigating through the temple’s labyrinth is quite simple. After some time, the player will encounter a door protected by an enemy whose level varies. Defeating this adversary will result in obtaining the Diamond Claw, a valuable artifact worth 1000 Gold. This item’s high value stems from the precious materials used in its construction.
1 The Amethyst Claw
The Only Dragon Claw That Comes In More Than One Piece
- Location: Vahlok’s Tomb, northern and southern gates, each half on the corpse of a leveled enemy
- Associated Quest: “Lost Legacy”
- Solution: Eagle, Wolf, Dragon
The unique Amethyst Claw comprises two distinct sections and is linked to the quest titled “Lost Legacy,” which belongs to the additional content for The Elder Scrolls 5: Dragonborn. In Vahlok’s Tomb, you can uncover both parts of the claw. One piece lies along the southern pathway, while the other awaits discovery at the termination of the northern passage.
Head towards the southern route until you reach a fight with a draugr, whose body contains one part of the Amethyst Claw. The northern path will also lead to a similar encounter, where defeating the boss rewards the other half of the claw. Once obtained, go back to the central room and place both halves of the Amethyst Claw into the keyholes to proceed.
right now, you can play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, the latest versions of Xbox (Xbox Series X/S), and Nintendo Switch.
