Slaps roof of RPG: at 125GB on PC, Oblivion Remastered can fit 27 of 2009’s Oblivion GOTY edition

The remastered version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has been released and can be purchased now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Game Pass. However, keep in mind that the installation process may take a considerable amount of time due to its large file size. On PC, it’s approximately 125 GB – over 27 times larger than the 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) edition of Oblivion, as indicated by both games’ Steam pages.

On other systems, the condition hasn’t significantly improved either. Oblivion Remastered requires a massive storage space of 123.2 GB on the Xbox Series X and 119.1 GB on the PlayStation 5.

Although it may seem like a hassle due to its large file size, the extensive improvements made by Bethesda Game Studios and collaborator Virtuous on the original game, as evident in the remastered version, are probably the reason behind its sizeable storage requirements.

According to an Xbox Wire article, the remaster was developed using Unreal Engine 5, offering a resolution of up to 4K at 60 frames per second. It features brand-new textures, lighting effects, and landscape enhancements. Additionally, character, spell, and weapon animations have been revamped, along with weather conditions and the day/night cycle.

Alongside enhanced visuals, the remaster also offers numerous user-friendly enhancements such as revamped HUD, menus, and maps, featuring an upgraded UI for abilities like Persuasion, Clairvoyance, and others. It includes updates to leveling, encumbrance, non-combat perks, better enemy scaling, new accessibility options, additional autosaves, a refined first-person and third-person camera angle, and many other improvements. Whew!

On every platform, the remastered version is priced at $50, however, if you’re a Game Pass subscriber, you can download and enjoy it without any extra charges.
