Slay the Spire 2 Release Window EXPOSED

At the 2024 Triple-I Initiative Exhibition, Seattle-based studio Mega Crit unveiled Slay the Spire 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the popular roguelike deck builder game released in 2019. The trailer for the game presented at this event was primarily an animated short, offering a glimpse of a few new characters but revealing little about the actual gameplay or any significant changes. Intriguingly, Mega Crit didn’t disclose much about its upcoming project beyond what was shown in the trailer and some gameplay images shared in a press release.

During The Game Awards 2024, Mega Crit showcased the anticipated sequel of Slay the Spire 2, presenting some actual gameplay footage this time. Players got their first glimpse at the deck-building combat that will be featured in the upcoming sequel, as well as a sneak peek at the peculiar new enemies they might encounter. According to the trailers for the game, Mega Crit aims to release Slay the Spire 2 exclusively on Windows PCs in 2025. To gather more player feedback, the developer intends to debut the game directly through Steam’s early access program. However, a specific release date for Slay the Spire 2 has not been announced yet.

Slay the Spire 2 Will Come Out Sometime in 2025

To alleviate any worries about a possible delay, Mega Crit studios have confirmed that they are moving forward with their goal to deliver Slay the Spire 2 to players within the upcoming year. In a recent update on the Steam page for the game, Mega Crit stated that it is still scheduled for release in 2025; however, they couldn’t provide a specific date or month at this time. The team also mentioned that with their holiday break recently concluded, there isn’t much new information to share about the game for now.

Like Its Predecessor, Slay the Spire 2 May Be Released in the Second Half of The Year

Due to limited information available, we can’t precisely pinpoint the release date for Slay the Spire 2, but by examining Mega Crit’s past work, we can make an educated guess. Notably, their previous game, Slay the Spire, followed a similar early access pattern as its successor did. Specifically, Slay the Spire debuted via Steam Early Access in November 2017 and was eventually released as a full version around one year later. Thus, it’s reasonable to assume that the development timeline for the sequel will be similar.

If Slay the Spire 2 adheres to its original’s release schedule, we might expect it to drop in the latter part of 2025. However, Mega Crit could shake things up by releasing the game during the summer. As of now, the year 2025’s calendar is still being filled out, but considering the summer appears relatively empty in terms of new games, it could be an ideal time to launch a game like Slay the Spire 2. This is especially true given that the fall 2025 release window seems somewhat uncertain at this point.

Slay the Spire 2’s Early Access Launch Could Be Delayed to 2026 Due to GTA 6

One possible factor that might delay the scheduled release of Slay the Spire 2 is the potential clash with Grand Theft Auto 6. While Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 is anticipated to be a groundbreaking open-world game set for release this fall, it’s yet to announce an exact date. If both games were to launch at the same time, Mega Crit might need to postpone the early access launch of Slay the Spire 2 until 2026 to avoid being overshadowed. However, given the slim likelihood of such a scenario, it’s more reasonable to expect that Slay the Spire 2 will still be released in 2025 for now, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
