The initial screenplay for the ‘Sleeping Dogs’ movie is complete, as confirmed by one of the film’s stars and producers.

I’m so excited about the Sleeping Dogs movie! This game came out back in 2012 and quickly became a fan favorite – it’s set in Hong Kong and you play as a cop going undercover, doing crazy parkour and martial arts. It’s a shame it didn’t sell well at the time and a sequel seemed impossible. But now, Simu Liu – you know, Shang-Chi from the Marvel movies – is going to play Wei Shen, the main character, and he says the movie is actually further along in development than anyone realizes! It’s awesome to see this game getting a new life.

If the script is approved, the next steps would be casting and then filming.

Okay, so I was surprised to hear we’re *finally* getting a Sleeping Dogs movie! Remember when Donnie Yen was going to do it and it just fell apart? Total bummer. But now Simu Liu is really pushing for it – he actually wants to *produce* it himself, which is awesome. The game didn’t exactly set the world on fire sales-wise, but hopefully, Hollywood can give it another shot. I’m cautiously optimistic!
