Actor Donnie Yen (known for his role as Ip Man) had been associated with this project for a significant amount of time, and it was anticipated that he would be the lead in the movie. However, something that was previously hidden about this association has now come to light.

The Sleeping Dogs Movie Project Has Been Put To Bed

In a Zoom conversation with Polygon, Yen shared that he invested significant time, effort, and some of his personal funds to bring the project to life, but it didn’t pan out as planned. He explained, “I worked extensively with these producers, even putting my own money towards acquiring drafts and some rights. I waited patiently for years, hoping to make it happen. I was eager to do it and had so many ideas, yet sadly… Well, you understand the way Hollywood operates, don’t you? I invested a lot of time into it over the years. It was quite unfortunate.

2017 saw the announcement of a movie adaptation based on Yen’s project, according to a report. At that time, Neal H. Moritz, known for producing films like The Fast and the Furious series and I Am Legend, was linked with the project. However, it appears the project has since been put on hold.

If even a well-known actor like Yen, who carries significant influence and popularity, can’t manage to launch this film, it suggests that things might not be going well for its production.

In 2012, the action-adventure video game Sleeping Dogs hit the market, created by the then-active studio United Front Games. This open-world title, set in bustling Hong Kong, gained prominence within its genre due to captivating characters and a thrilling narrative.

Although additional story content was added as downloadable content, the intended follow-up, which was supposed to continue from where the original game ended, never made it past pre-production stages. Currently, you can play the game on your PS4 or Xbox One with the Definitive Edition.
