As someone who has been following the gaming industry for decades and has seen countless games come and go, I must say that Slitterhead by Bokeh Game Studio piques my interest like no other. The developer diary video, titled “Kowlong Express: Bringing Forgotten Fragments into Slitterhead,” takes me back to my own travels in the bustling streets of cities similar to Kowlong, filled with energy, dynamism, and a less controlled, more chaotic era that I can’t help but be drawn to.
Bokeh Game Studio recently shared a behind-the-scenes video on the development process of Slitterhead, highlighting the origins of the “Kowlong” environment.
This video is the initial installment of a series titled “Kowlong Express: Resurfacing Hidden Gems into Slitterhead”. The press release indicates that this developer diary will trace Slitterhead creator Toyama as he revisits places from his past, which have been etched in his memory for years and served as the foundation for the game’s setting, Kowlong.
As a gamer, I’d say: “In this game, Slitterhead, Toyama delves into the raw energy and dynamic chaos that captivated him, drawing inspiration from an era before his journeys. This turbulent time served as fuel for his dream to breathe life into the world within my screen, the one he had imagined.

In the bustling, mysterious streets of Kowlong, where darkness and confusion reign, this thrilling action-adventure game places you in the role of “Hyoki,” an entity without a past or physical form. Your mission is simple but urgent: to wipe out the grotesque creatures known as “Slitterheads” that have infiltrated the city, masquerading as humans. As you traverse the dazzling neon-lit cityscape, you’ll need to find allies among the rare humans called “Rarities,” infiltrate dangerous organizations, and engage in fierce battles using the power of blood. Along your journey, uncover the truth behind Hyoki’s origin and the emergence of the Slitterheads.
In the USA, the game will initially be released as a “Day One Edition” through XSEED Games. This special edition comes packed with the game itself, an original soundtrack CD by Akira Yamaoka, an artbook brimming with more than 100 pages of detailed artwork, a sticker sheet, and is housed in a unique custom box.
On November 8th, Slitterhead will be available for play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, as well as PC through the Epic Games Store and Steam.
