The free-to-play open beta for “Smite 2,” the next chapter in the third-person action MOBA series, begins on January 14. Originally entering its Alpha phase in early 2024, “Smite 2” is set to unveil new game modes, characters (Gods), and features, inviting more players to join the new era of “Smite.

The long-awaited follow-up to the 2014 free-to-play MOBA “Smite”, titled “Smite 2”, was unveiled over four years after its original release. This upcoming game promises a completely overhauled experience, developed using Unreal Engine 5. Similar to its predecessor, “Smite 2” allows players to assume the roles of numerous legendary characters and deities from various mythologies, ranging from Greek gods to traditional Japanese divinities. By the end of August 2024, a total of 23 Gods will be available for selection, with that number expected to grow to 50 by the beginning of February 2025. More details regarding the game’s features have been disclosed recently, and it appears there will be more than just one new character introduced this year.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I’ll be diving into the open beta of Smite 2 on January 14! This free-to-play phase will offer a unique perspective on how it distinguishes itself from its predecessor. On the same day, we’ll welcome Aladdin, the first deity from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, who adds an exciting twist to the game as a Magical Assassin and Jungler with wall-running abilities and a trap for enemies in his lamp.

Moreover, anticipate the return of beloved characters like Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni from the original Smite, but be prepared for some tweaks to their skillsets! When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?

In the upcoming free-to-play open beta, a novel game mode called Joust has been unveiled alongside another mode, Duel (1v1). Set in an Arthurian landscape, players can navigate the map using teleporters and stealth grass to catch their foes off guard. The same map will be utilized for both modes. A fresh element in gameplay is the new Aspects feature, allowing players to exchange part of their God’s abilities for a potent advantage. For instance, when Aspects are activated, Athena can no longer transport to her allies’ side to protect them; instead, she can transport to enemies to weaken them. During the beta phase, 20 out of Smite 2’s 45 Gods will showcase this Aspects feature, with more being added later on.

In addition to its gameplay, several user-friendly aspects are being added to Smite 2, such as Role Guides, messages to assist novice players, enhanced PC text chat, upgraded item store, death summaries, and more. The inaugural esports tournament final for Smite 2 is slated to occur at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19, offering a glimpse into this exciting new Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. The game can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
