Smite 2 is Finally Going Free to Play Next Week

Hi-Rez Studios has announced that Smite 2 will shift from a paid alpha stage to a free-to-play open beta phase commencing on January 14, next Tuesday. Initially in September 2024, paying customers got access to the Smite 2 alpha, however, starting from next week, you can download and play Smite 2 without any charges.

The free-to-play transition will come hand-in-hand with a sizeable content update.

Smite 2 Free-to-Play Update Incoming

2014 marked the initial release of the first Smite game. A year ago, we caught a glimpse of Smite 2 in its alpha stage. Now, the sequel is gearing up to become accessible to more players, as Hi-Rez Studios plans to distribute it using a free-to-play business model.

On January 14th, the game Smite 2 transitions into a free-to-play model. In addition to this change, it’s set to receive a significant upgrade that introduces fresh God characters, gameplay mechanics, and game modes.

In the upcoming update for Smite 2, an impressive expansion is planned, adding over 10% more playable characters to its already diverse roster, which currently stands at 45. This growth will include five new Gods joining the game, four of whom are reminiscent of the original version – Ullr, Mulan, Geb, and Agni.

In this scenario, the role of the fifth deity is taken by Aladdin, a figure renowned for his association with a genie who possesses the power to immobilize adversaries at will. This plot line seems quite recognizable!

Furthermore, Hi-Rez Studios is set to unveil a fresh 3-player versus 3-player game mode named Joust. Designed for a single lane map, this mode caters to the recent addition. Moreover, they’ve also crafted a one-on-one battlefield called Duel, offering players an intense and personalized playground.

In addition to the free-to-play update for Smite 2, several enhancements aimed at improving user experience are being introduced. These include ‘Role Guides’ and balance adjustments.
