As a lifelong fan of SNK and its iconic games that have been a significant part of my childhood memories, I am thrilled to see the company taking a bold step forward with the creation of KOF Studio. The legacy of SNK’s fighting game franchises is something that resonates deeply within the gaming community, and it’s heartening to know that they are in good hands.
The announcement of Fatal Fury: City of Wolves and a new Art of Fighting game has sent waves of excitement through the gaming world, and I can’t wait to see what these teams will bring to the table. It’s also intriguing to see that SNK is working on an action RPG based on Samurai Spirits; as someone who has spent countless hours mastering the art of combat in SNK games, this news is music to my ears.
What’s even more exciting is the fact that these projects are being developed under the guidance of SNK’s new studio, which was launched to coincide with The King of Fighters’ 30th anniversary. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of these games and the passion that the team at KOF Studio has for preserving and advancing their legacies.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also a known video game fan, will make a guest appearance in one of these games. Perhaps he could join Terry Bogard for a tag team match against some iconic SNK characters? Now that would be a dream match I wouldn’t mind seeing!
Remarkable Japanese game developer and distributor, SNK, has revealed KOF Studio, a fresh squad assigned to carry on the legacy and spearhead the evolution of their cherished series. Notably, SNK is actively engaged in developing multiple games at present.
Established as far back as 1978, Shin Nihon Kikaku (New Japan Project), also known as SNK, is the creative force behind timeless arcade games such as Fatal Fury, Metal Slug, and The King of Fighters. Lately, SNK has revealed that they have established a new studio which will continue their long-standing franchises.
In simple terms, the upcoming KOF Studio aims to carry forward the combat game traditions established by SNK and shape their future projects, as suggested on a team-focused website. The phrase “Revolutionize the legacy” implies that SNK is preparing for significant change. Lastly, “The dream match never ends” is a reference to the subtitle of the second King of Fighters game and the distinctive fighting style found in numerous SNK battle games.
SNK Launches New KOF Studio
On KOF Studio’s webpage, it was mentioned that the team was established to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the popular series, The King of Fighters. The first game in this series from SNK was debuted on their Neo Geo MVS arcade system back in August 1994. The most recent main installment in the franchise, The King of Fighters 15, was released in 2022. Additionally, KOF Studio highlights The King of Fighters 15, its immediate predecessor SNK Heroines, the reboot of 2019’s Samurai Shodown, and other related titles on their site as well.
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting fighting games to sink my teeth into. The upcoming release of “Fatal Fury: City of Wolves” in April 2025 has me buzzing with anticipation. I’ve been a fan of the Fatal Fury series since its inception, and the prospect of another installment is simply thrilling.
But that’s not all! The recruitment page on the site for a new action RPG based on “Samurai Spirits” has me even more pumped up. I’ve been following this franchise since it was first known as Samurai Shodown in Japan, and the opportunity to work on such a project would be nothing short of a dream come true.
With SNK producer Joshua Weatherford confirming that the company has several projects in development, including the “Samurai Spirits” title and a new entry in the Art of Fighting franchise, I can’t help but feel that this is going to be an exciting time for fighting game enthusiasts like myself. Bring on the battles!
The gaming company SNK is controlled by the Misk Foundation, a charitable organization established by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with a focus on education and leadership among young Saudis. Notably, the prince is an avid video game enthusiast and serves as chairman of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which also has investments in well-known gaming companies such as Capcom, Nexon, and Nintendo. In April, it was announced by SNK President and CEO Kenji Matsubara that bin Salman expressed a desire for the company to regain its global prominence, reminiscent of its success in the 1990s.
