As a seasoned Call of Duty veteran who has navigated through countless maps and modes since the early days, I can say that the recent turn of events with Black Ops 4’s Zombies mode left me utterly bewildered. It’s not every day you find yourself under attack from your supposed allies in a solo game! The good old days of survival against the undead have taken an unexpected twist, and it’s left solo play practically broken for me.

In an unusual turn of events while playing the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, a player encountered a puzzling situation where they were attacked not just by zombies, but also by other Non-Player Characters (NPCs). A video of this incident captures the moments when the player was pursued and fatally shot by characters that were supposed to be allies. This unexpected aggression from friendly NPCs has essentially rendered solo play in Black Ops 4 unplayable.

For more than a decade, Call of Duty Zombies remains one of the most acclaimed and played game modes ever created. Originally conceived as a tiny bonus Easter egg for the end of Call of Duty: World at War in 2008, Call of Duty’s Zombies mode has since grown and evolved into the intricate, immersive survival experience players have come to cherish. Players can still immerse themselves in the Zombies universe through Modern Warfare 3, which offers a vast open world to explore. Yet, one player seeking to revisit the grandeur of Black Ops 4 encountered an extremely peculiar problem that essentially made the game unplayable.

As a dedicated gamer, I recently hopped onto Black Ops 4 Zombies for a round of solo action, only to find myself in hot water thanks to those pesky AI characters. It seems that since August 1st, these bots have been sneaking into my games and wreaking havoc!

Black Ops 4 Player Faces Bizarre Zombies Issue

In this scenario, the gamer attempted to engage in a game of ‘Classified’, which is essentially Black Ops 4’s version of the Five map from the original Black Ops, that resembles the classic Zombies mode in Call of Duty. The main objective in Call of Duty Zombies is survival, though players usually encounter only the undead while playing. However, this player expressed frustration, claiming solo gameplay feels almost like a 2 vs. 2 match, even when multiple bots (AI-controlled characters) are involved. They explained that one bot acts as an ally, while the others seem to attack them instead.

As an avid Zombies enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a thrill coursing through me, given the intriguing developments on the horizon. The upcoming months are shaping up to be a veritable feast for Zombies fans, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 poised to carry forward the game mode once more. Nestled under the protective wing of veteran Call of Duty developer Treyarch, the very studio that birthed the Zombies game mode, Black Ops 6 aspires to be a “return to form” moment for the franchise, offering a rich tapestry of single-player, multiplayer, and Zombies experiences. Treyarch has confirmed that Black Ops 6 will indeed feature traditional round-based Zombies, but there are still many secrets and mysteries swirling around this beloved game mode. Black Ops 6 is slated for official release on October 25, 2024, making it the first Call of Duty game to launch on Xbox Game Pass.
