She approaches her targets in an unusual way, employing innovative tactics to outmaneuver her foes, which has earned her the nickname The Dancer.

Even though she achieved the highest rank for her skills, she continued practicing swordsmanship, demonstrating her dedication.

Her resilience is equally impressive because she can tolerate the foul odor of mana, a scent that only two characters have detected thus far, emanating from her allies and enemies to empower them in combat. As the most powerful female hunter yet in Solo Leveling, she serves as an inspiring figure, injecting fresh feminine vigor into a story predominantly populated by male characters. However, for a character with such great potential, her slow progression in development seems to be met with disapproval among fans.

Unfortunately, despite Cha Hae-In’s impressive abilities as an S-Rank hunter, she tends to be overshadowed in the narrative by the rapid rise of Sung Jinwoo, who goes from being the weakest hunter to the Shadow Monarch. The storyline heavily revolves around him, which results in characters like Cha Hae-In being pushed to the sidelines. Her potential and power are often overlooked, as she is frequently portrayed as a spectator rather than an active participant, waiting for Sung Jinwoo to take action and save the day. Despite her significant strength and skills, her role as a hunter is significantly diminished compared to that of Sung Jinwoo in the series.

The plot shifts her character from the formidable Dancer of the Hunters Guild, who was feared by all, into Jinwoo’s romantic interest. As the anime progressed, it delved deeper into her feelings for Sung Jinwoo, highlighting his unique mana scent and her determination to join his guild to be near him. However, this emotional focus comes at a cost as her warrior persona takes a backseat. After Jeju Island, she becomes more involved in sweet romantic scenes with Jinwoo rather than major action sequences. The series, titled Solo Leveling, remains true to its title and lead character, relegating Cha Hae-In, an intriguing and skilled hunter, to the sidelines of a narrative that holds great potential for dynamic development.

Moments That Hinted At Her True Power

Flashes Of Cha Hae-In’s Potential

Though the series might seem to have limited her opportunities to shine in action scenes, it provided viewers with a peek into her full potential. One of her standout moments was her victory over the Ant Queen on Jeju Island. As her teammates engaged their target, she skillfully disabled it by maneuvering around every limb and ultimately beheading it with a single powerful strike. She also remained composed when confronted by the Queen’s Royal Guard, executing each move with precision and calculation as she systematically eliminated them.

From my perspective, failing to acknowledge Cha Hae-in’s sparring encounter with Igris and Beru would be quite unfair. Although their full-throttle sparring was restricted, she demonstrated remarkable resilience, standing her ground against them both. Interestingly, it was Hae-in who asked for a confrontation with Beru, bravely choosing to face her past traumas from Jeju Island and challenge the strength they represented. It’s unfortunate that these brief glimpses of her potential were fleeting. It was evident she possessed formidable power, but the narrative seemed to leave little space for her to fully express it.

What Could Have Been

Missed Opportunities For Development

Cha Hae-In’s character held vast, untapped potential. Her backstory, her determination and tenacity in training, as well as glimpses into the extent of her abilities and skills, suggest that she had all the necessary elements for an extraordinary character, even within the context of Solo Leveling. If given the chance, she could have been a prominent figure in the ensuing battles, spearheading the defense against threats to humanity alongside characters such as Jinwoo.

Her present situation isn’t too unsatisfactory, but her character seems to fall short of its full potential. Her bond with Sung Jinwoo appears more like an alternative outcome in the storyline than a true reflection of her destiny. The scarcity of solo missions and meaningful conversations outside of those involving Sung Jinwoo add to this impression. Instead, she could have been by his side, engaging in battles against any adversaries that arose, rather than merely serving as a supporting character who tends to foot soldiers and worries about Sung Jinwoo’s welfare.
