Solo Leveling: 7 Strongest Shadows, Ranked By Strength

This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.

In Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo’s shadow army is far more powerful and destructive than any other undead creature. Though the army includes both strong and weak soldiers, their combined strength makes Jinwoo incredibly dominant in battle.

Within Jinwoo’s army, a select few shadows possess incredible power, far exceeding that of the rest. These powerful beings can operate independently as if they are Jinwoo, and have the potential to completely change the course of a battle on their own – some are even strong enough to defeat top-level, S-rank hunters. Now, let’s take a closer look at the most formidable shadows serving under Jinwoo in Solo Leveling.

Jima

  • Jima can take down a giant with a single hit.
  • Jima, like Greed, doesn’t get much attention despite being a powerful member of Jinwoo’s army, likely because he appeared later in the story. However, it’s a mistake to underestimate him – as Naga’s shadow, Jima can easily defeat a giant in a single blow.

Jima is a remarkably powerful shadow warrior, ranking just below the elite knights like Iron, Tank, and Kaisel. If he had the same opportunities to battle as fighters like Beru and Bellion, his skills would fully live up to his high rank.

Tusk

  • Tusk’s strongest asset is his destructive magic and shamanistic abilities.

Tusk is unmatched in magical ability, but he isn’t as physically strong as Greed or Kamish. Without his magic and the Orb of Avarice, he’d be significantly weaker in a fight. In fact, even highly skilled hunters like Cha Hae-In and Thomas Andre would stand a much better chance against him if he were stripped of those advantages.

Despite his tendency to cause chaos, Tusk is a powerful fighter thanks to his magical abilities. He’s incredibly adaptable, capable of casting almost any spell you can think of. By the series’ conclusion, Tusk has become a formidable leader, able to command three dragons effortlessly.

Greed

  • Greed is far superior to most S-rank hunters.

Despite being a general-grade shadow, Greed is often overlooked within Jinwoo’s army. This is likely due to the fact that he was originally the shadow of Hwang Dong-Soo, who consistently opposed Jinwoo throughout the series Solo Leveling.

Greed is now a changed individual, displaying sincere respect for Jinwoo and real regret for his past actions against his master. Because he’s introduced later in the story, he doesn’t have much chance to make a strong impression on the audience.

During the conflict with the Monarchs, escaping Sillad’s Ice Prison proved challenging for most of the shadows, but Greed easily broke free with a simple show of strength. This incredible power, combined with his history as a top-ranked hunter and enhancements from Norma Selner, makes him exceptionally powerful.

Kamish

  • Kamish can wipe out multiple foes at once.

It’s unfortunate that Kamish doesn’t get much screen time in Solo Leveling after briefly assisting Jinwoo during the International Guild Conference Arc. He really deserves his own dedicated anime episode – perhaps a special or OVA – to showcase his power as humanity’s greatest threat. Considering it took five top-tier hunters just to hold him back, he’s certainly earned it.

Kamish is an incredibly powerful red dragon with both immense strength and devastating attacks. Though his exact ranking within Antares’ army is unknown, his ability to completely destroy battlefields and defeat many enemies simultaneously suggests he’s as strong as, or even stronger than, Sung Jinwoo’s elite General-level shadows.

Beru

  • Beru can clear high-level dungeons by himself.

Beru was the first of Jinwoo’s shadows to reach the general grade, making him the strongest shadow in the army after the events on Jeju Island. As Jinwoo grew in power, Beru also became stronger and a dependable leader within the shadow army.

Beru is incredibly powerful – she can easily conquer even the most challenging A-rank dungeons, filled with dangerous monsters like two-headed ogres, death knights, and even a powerful Arch Lich. Normally, these dungeons require a team of skilled hunters, but Beru can handle them all on her own.

Beru is incredibly powerful, easily surpassing hunters like Cha Hae-In – he can break her sword without effort and doesn’t give her a chance to defend herself. During the Monarchs’ War, he even managed to injure the Queen of Insects, cutting through her fingers. His strength has increased to the point where he can now escape even the strongest restraints, like Sillad’s ice prison.

Igris

  • Full-power Igris can terrify a Monarch.

Igris is considered the most powerful swordsman, even surpassing Bellion, and holds the rank of Grand Marshal. Remarkably, even without a sword, Igris is strong enough to defeat Sung Jinwoo before he gains his necromantic powers and becomes the Shadow Monarch.

Once Jinwoo gained a shadow, its biggest achievement was delaying the powerful Frost Monarch, Sillad, giving Jinwoo the chance to return.

Throughout much of Solo Leveling, Igris didn’t seem as powerful as some other Knights – Cha Hae-In even defeated him in a one-on-one battle, and Tusk and Beru were considered higher ranked. However, once Jinwoo’s restrictions were lifted, Igris regained his full power. By the series’ end, he surpassed Beru and the others in strength, though Bellion remained the strongest.

Bellion

  • Bellion is the strongest non-ruler/non-monarch character in Solo Leveling.

In Solo Leveling, Bellion is unique among Sung Jinwoo’s shadow army, achieving the highest possible rank of Grand Marshal. This puts him at the top of the thousands of soldiers under Jinwoo’s command. He served as a key advisor to both Ashborn and Jinwoo, demonstrating his incredible power and influence. Beyond that, Bellion is considered the strongest character in the series who isn’t a Ruler or Monarch.

Bellion is incredibly powerful, rivaling even the Monarchs, which is why he defeats strong opponents like Beru so easily towards the end of the story. The Ant King’s shadow doesn’t pose a challenge for someone of Bellion’s strength, and he dispatches it with little effort.
