This article contains spoilers for the Solo Leveling series.
Released in 2024, Solo Leveling has quickly become a hugely popular anime. It’s known for its non-stop action and exciting battles that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The main character, Sung Jinwoo, is a fan favorite thanks to his calm personality and incredible fighting skills. Interestingly, some of his most memorable moments aren’t even during combat.
The author of *Solo Leveling*, Chugong, shared his favorite part of the story, and it wasn’t an action scene – much to the surprise of readers. He said the moment that resonated with him the most was when Jinwoo cried with his mother. This is especially interesting because many fans actually disliked that particular scene, highlighting the diverse reactions within the *Solo Leveling* fanbase.
Chugong Reveals His Favorite Part Is Jinwoo Crying

- This Emotionally Charged Part Was the Creator’s Favorite
- He Also Liked the Red Gate Arc
The author of *Solo Leveling*, Chugong, regularly interacts with his readers and answers their questions. This makes fans of the series particularly fortunate, as they receive unique insights into the story they love.
In a recent interview with LitRes, Solo Leveling author Chugong discussed his favorite moments from the series. While he enjoyed writing the Red Gate Arc, he revealed his true favorite scene was when Jinwoo cries after successfully healing his mother. Chugong explained that this powerfully emotional moment is one of the best for developing Jinwoo’s character, briefly showing his vulnerable side and highlighting his humanity.

Chugong expressed how much this scene affected him, and made him cry while writing it:
I especially enjoyed writing the Red Gate arc, where the Shadow Army goes on their initial mission. The entire story, from the teacher’s request at the beginning to the confrontation with Baek Yoonho at the end, felt like a seamless, quest-driven narrative, and it was a lot of fun to create. However, if I had to pick a single favorite moment, it would be when Jinwoo breaks down in tears. His response to his mother, after she wakes up from a long sleep, about how much he’s struggled really resonated with me. Honestly, writing that scene brought up some difficult memories of my own, and I actually ended up crying while I wrote it. — Chugong
Jinwoo’s Cool Moments Are What Make Him Popular, But The Emotional Moments Are Where He Really Shines

- Many Fans Disliked Jinwoo’s Moment With His Mother
- It Was One Of Solo Leveling’s Highlights
Many fans were surprised to learn that the scene where Jinwoo cries is the author, Chugong’s, favorite. It’s a rare moment where we see Jinwoo’s vulnerable side. While some anime viewers disliked the scene, feeling it weakened Jinwoo’s powerful image, it’s actually a standout moment in *Solo Leveling*. It provides a welcome emotional break in a story that’s mostly focused on action.

Currently, there are 25 episodes of *Solo Leveling* available – the first season has 12 episodes and the second has 13. You can watch both seasons on Crunchyroll. If you’re eager for more content before season 3 arrives, reading the original manhwa is a good way to continue the story.
