Solo Leveling: Characters You Won’t See In Season 3

Summary

  • Park Heejin is a perceptive mage-type hunter who fades into the background after the Red Gate arc.
  • Ma Dongwook, a Tanker-type S-rank hunter, is unlikely to have a significant role in future arcs.
  • Lee Joohee, an old friend of Sung Jinwoo, is not expected to play a role in the series moving forward.

The narrative of “Solo Leveling” follows the life of Sung Jinwoo, initially known as the weakest hunter among humans. However, following his second awakening, he astounds everyone by ascending to become the world’s strongest hunter. As the story heavily emphasizes Jinwoo’s remarkable progression, numerous intriguing characters often take a back seat after contributing to his journey.

As an outside observer, I find myself consistently impressed by the captivating world of Solo Leveling, yet it’s often criticized for its focused character development primarily revolving around Sung Jinwoo. This singular emphasis, however, could be both the series’ greatest strength and its most intriguing weakness in upcoming installments.

There are several engaging characters who, unfortunately, may not grace our screens during Solo Leveling’s third season due to the storyline’s shift towards global conflicts and divine entities. This narrowing of focus is bound to create an exciting narrative, but it might also mean that some compelling personalities take a backseat.

1. Park Heejin

B-Rank Hunter

  • Anime Debut: Episode 6
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 49

Park Heejin serves as a skilled mage-hunter, representing the White Tiger Guild. She’s a quick-witted and sharp-minded young lady who manages to discern that Jinwoo is concealing his real abilities during their initial encounter, which took place during the Red Gate situation.

In the latest season of the show, there’s been an intense focus on Sung Jinwoo and his extraordinary development, leaving Park with little noteworthy actions during her short stint in the Red Gate storyline. Consequently, it seems she won’t be featured prominently in the upcoming season of the series. Nevertheless, there’s a possibility that she may pop up again briefly in future episodes or installments of the show.

2. Ma Dongwook

Tanker-Type S-Rank Hunter

  • Anime Debut: Episode 21
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 90

Ma Dongwook serves as head of the Fame Guild, showcasing exceptional power among Korea’s hunters. He additionally belongs to the Jeju Island raid team. Endowed with heightened strength and resilience, Dongwook boasts a distinctive ability called Gigantification, which amplifies his size substantially.

In the Korean series, Ma is depicted as a crucial hunter, but his part isn’t as prominent. Starting from the Recruitment arc, the story will delve into international hunter politics and broader global conflicts. Consequently, it’s unlikely that Dongwook will feature in the third season of the show.

3. Han Song-Yi

Jinah’s Close Friend

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 11

Han Song-Yi is a friend from school who attends classes with Jinah, and she holds the E-rank in hunting abilities. During the Yoo Jinho Raid Party storyline, she encounters Sung Jinwoo. Hired by Jinho, Song-Yi joins a makeshift team of hunters that is authorized to invade C-rank dungeons.

Later on, Jinwoo discovers Han has quit school to pursue a career as a hunter, recognizing the potential perils associated with this decision. Determined to change her mind, he resolves to persuade her back to academic life. When he finds himself trapped within the Red Gate alongside Song-Yi, Sung takes responsibility for ensuring both her safety and that of other hunters within his group.

Han is a character who introduces viewers to the tough life of a hunter and the hardships that come with it in a world where those blessed with natural abilities hold an advantage. She also provides insights into Jinwoo’s personality, showing how far he’ll go to aid others. It’s likely many fans of Solo Leveling would like to see more of Song-Yi, but regrettably, she’ll be largely absent from the action in upcoming seasons.

4. Lim Tae-Gyu

Fiend Guild’s Leader

  • Anime Debut: Episode 19
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 76

Lim Tae-Gyu is renowned as Korea’s top ranger-style hunter. He holds the position of guild master within the Fiend Guild and is one of a small number of Korean hunters chosen for the Jeju Island raid team. Despite being an S-ranker, Lim’s strength pales in comparison to many international hunters at the same rank level.

In the Jeju Island raid, Tae-Gyu puts up a brave fight, but his performance isn’t as impressive compared to the other team members. As the story moves beyond Korea, Lim may gradually become less prominent, making way for fresh characters to step into the limelight.

5. Lee Minsung

Vice-Guild Master Of The Fiend Guild

  • Anime Debut: Episode 18
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 67

Lee Minsung, originally, is an individual who has been pampered excessively, employing his acting skills to secure membership in the Fiend Guild, with the intention of enhancing his public standing following harsh criticism for evading the mandatory Korean military service. Regrettably, his strategy to redirect public focus falls flat as Sung Jinwoo is unveiled as Korea’s tenth S-rank hunter, effectively stealing all the attention.

In other words, although Minsung is quite intriguing, it seems he won’t contribute significantly to upcoming chapters in the storyline, and we might not see him on the screen for the next episode or season.

6. Lee Joohee

Sung Jinwoo’s Old Friend

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 1

From the very beginning, Lee Joohee was a constant presence in Sung Jinwoo’s life. In his early days as an E-ranker, when he frequently faced life-threatening situations, it was Joohee who stood by him and saved his life on multiple occasions. However, as Jinwoo grew to become one of the world’s top hunters, his dedication to his family and other obligations caused him to drift away from her.

frankly speaking, the extent of your injuries was quite bothersome. At times, I found you to be seemingly ignorant and self-absorbed. Yet, you consistently persevered. Your eyes, filled with vitality, appeared as if they were pleading for survival… for a brighter tomorrow.

Joohee faced challenges surviving as a hunter due to her difficulty coping with the psychological effects of the dungeon raids. After the Double Dungeon incident, Lee made limited appearances, yet many fans hoped Jinwoo would end up with her. Joohee is often brought up when discussing the series, showing her popularity. However, she won’t appear in the upcoming arcs; instead, fans can anticipate seeing her again in the final season of the show.

7. Song Chi-Yul

Survivor Of Double Dungeon Incident

  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 1

Song Chi-Yul may not be the most flamboyant character in the series, but since the beginning, he has been one of the select few who have shown understanding towards Sung Jinwoo’s hardships and extended a helping hand. In the Double Dungeon, he ponders over self-sacrifice on an altar for others and even confronts Kang Taeshik in order to shield Sung and Lee during the Dungeon and Prisoners arc.

In a surprising turn of events, Song Chi-Yul emerges from his retirement to shield civilians during the attack on Jeju Island, but it’s doubtful we’ll see him again in the third installment of the series. Instead, after hanging up his warrior gear, Chi-Yul is thought to settle into a peaceful life, far from the chaos of the battlefield.
