Summary
- Beru is the first Shadow to communicate with Sung Jinwoo, showing loyalty and addressing him as his King.
- Beru stands out among Shadows due to his ability to talk and General rank, superior in strength.
- Sung Jinwoo’s other Shadows may level up over time, potentially tied to Jinwoo’s progress or their own experience.
In the last episode of season 2 for the series “Solo Leveling”, Jinwoo Sung secured a significant new ally, Beru, the Shadow of the Ant King, who will aid him in future conflicts. Following a protracted battle, Jinwoo emerged victorious over the Ant King, and subsequently invoked Arise.
The power functioned successfully, leading to the emergence of the Ant King’s Shadow. Interestingly, prior to this event, all shadows remained silent, never speaking a word. Yet, the Ant King’s shadow exhibited a unique trait – it could speak.
Beru Is The First Shadow That Communicated With Sung Jinwoo

Immediately following its emergence as a Shadow, Beru conversed with Sung Jinwoo, asking the hero to bestow upon him a name. Taken aback by Beru’s ability to speak, since no other Shadows had ever communicated with him previously, Sung Jinwoo inquired about Beru’s allegiances. With a deferential tone, Beru referred to Sung Jinwoo as his king, prompting Sung Jinwoo to probe further and ascertain the nature of Beru’s loyalty.
Besides asking if Beru harbored resentment towards the Hunter for his death, Sung Jinwoo also inquired whether there was ill-feeling. Instead of expressing contempt, however, the Shadow graciously acknowledged the hero for reviving him. It’s fair to say that even Sung Jinwoo was taken aback by Beru’s unwavering loyalty towards him.
Why Beru Is Different From The Other Shadows

Among all shadows in Sung Jinwoo’s army, Beru stands out due to his ability to speak and his high rank. Unlike the others, Beru holds the title of General, making him significantly stronger. During his lifetime, Beru defeated a total of eight S-rank Hunters – seven Japanese and one Korean. The count could have been even greater if Sung Jinwoo hadn’t arrived on time to heal the remaining Korean Hunters.
Please grant me a name. —Beru
It’s reasonable to suppose that Beru, being resurrected, still possesses all his physical attributes from when he was alive, making it possible for him to take on S-rank Hunters effortlessly. The other Shadows in Jinwoo’s army are formidable as well, but they might struggle against opponents of equal strength. With Beru by his side, Sung Jinwoo can sit back and let the Shadow handle an S-rank Hunter without much worry.
Beru’s Ability To Talk Is Very Underrated
One benefit of utilizing Beru is his ability to convey information. In case of emergency, Jinwoo dispatched his Shadows along with the Jeju Raid team members. However, Jinwoo couldn’t monitor events on the island as the Shadows were incapable of speech. If a similar predicament arises in future missions and Beru is sent with someone, the Shadow can keep Jinwoo updated. This would potentially save more lives by ensuring better communication and situational awareness.
Sung Jinwoo’s Other Shadows Might Also Level Up
The Other Shadows Will Improve As Well
Aside from Beru, Sung Jinwoo has five main Shadows, including:
- Igris
- Iron
- Tank
- Fang
- Kaisel
These Shadows have demonstrated their effectiveness in battles on multiple occasions, making them trustworthy allies for Sung Jinwoo when he finds himself in difficult situations. As Sung Jinwoo advances and levels up, there’s a chance that the main Shadows might also become stronger. The nature of this potential growth – whether it’s due to their association with Jinwoo or gained through their own battle expertise – is still uncertain.
If it’s accurate that the statement holds, it follows that certain Shadows might advance more swiftly compared to others. The pace at which they progress is influenced by the timing of when Jinwoo calls them forth. Typically, Jinwoo relies on Igris, granting him an edge over others in most cases.
In the anticipated third season of Solo Leveling, we can expect some clarification regarding certain key aspects of the plot. This new installment will also bring forth a host of fresh characters whose actions will significantly impact the storyline. Additionally, fans are eager to witness more National Hunter characters and learn about their unique abilities. Furthermore, the Shadow Monarchs appear to be making their moves, adding another layer of intrigue to the upcoming season. All in all, with these exciting developments in store, it’s fair to say that the third season of Solo Leveling promises to be extraordinary!
