In the Jeju Island arc of Solo Leveling, unexpected surprises abound as South Korean and Japanese S-rank hunters confront an intimidating adversary. Lives are tragically sacrificed in this intense battle. Amidst the chaos, Sung Jin-Woo steps up to take on the Black Ant, ultimately rescuing fellow hunters like Cha Hae-In. It falls upon Jin-Woo to turn the tide and deliver a lesson to the Black Ant that it will carry for life.

The ongoing raid at Jeju Island marks South Korea’s fourth endeavor to regain control of this previously prosperous national territory. In the past three attempts, several powerful hunters from Solo Leveling have met their demise, including Eunseok, a high-ranking mage who is a friend to Baek Yoon-Ho and Min Byung-Gu. With the ants now evolving and becoming airborne, Japan and South Korea are joining forces on a joint operation to exterminate the Ant Queen and her colony permanently.

What Happens to Cha Hae-In on Jeju Island?

Cha Hae-In Fights Mutated Ants

Hunter Cha Hae-In, one of South Korea’s elite S-rank hunters, participated in the raid on Jeju Island. Given her remarkable talents and capabilities, the Korean government had no reservations about dispatching her to the mission, anticipating a significant contribution from her. Indeed, during the struggle against the Ant Queen and her guards, Hunter Cha demonstrated immense strength. In fact, even Baek Yoon-Ho of the White Tiger Guild, who was also present on the island, acknowledged that Cha Hae-In had defeated twice as many ants as he did.

“What is this terrifying pressure? I can’t believe it!”—Cha Hae-In to the Ant King

In a harmonious turn of events, the Korean hunters work together flawlessly, utilizing their abilities optimally and precisely against the ants. They not only slay the guards but also manage to defeat the Ant Queen decisively. The crowd applauds their triumph—but their celebration is short-lived as a formidable adversary with a menacing aura and bloodthirsty intent emerges, threatening to annihilate them all. Among the wounded is Cha Hae-In, who sustains a severe injury to her ribs and faints as a result.

How Jin-Woo Saved Cha Hae-In on Jeju Island

Jin-Woo Fights the Ant King on Behalf of the Fallen Hunters

Just as the Ant King was about to kill Cha Hae-In and the surviving hunters (with the exception of Byung-Gu, who had sadly perished), Sung Jin-Woo suddenly appeared on the scene. This unexpected arrival stirred up a lot of debate in the public eye, but it couldn’t change the truth: he was the only hunter with the ability to vanquish the Ant King and reclaim Jeju Island. If Jin-Woo hadn’t shown up, the Jeju Island raid mission would have ended disastrously for both Japan and South Korea, resulting in heavy losses.

Jin-Woo Attempts to Save Cha Hae-In

To rescue Cha Hae-In, Sung Jin-Woo must disclose his powers in front of the last S-rank hunters and a top-tier A-rank hunter. Yet, prior to this critical juncture, Jin-Woo selflessly shares healing potions with injured comrades, who gradually recover. However, Cha Hae-In’s injuries are so grave that these potions fail to help her. In simpler terms, Jin-Woo’s healing powers by themselves aren’t sufficient for saving her life.

“The living take precedence!”—Sung Jin-Woo

While Jin-Woo battles the Ant King, Cha Hae-In gradually loses strength. It’s only when she’s teetering on the edge of life that Jin-Woo realizes how long he’s been engaged in combat. His immediate thought is to find a healer, but alas, there are none left—Min Byung Gu and many Japanese hunters have fallen. To add to his troubles, Jin-Woo can’t employ the Shadow Exchange skill due to its cooling period. Moreover, he’s uncertain if he could even bring Cha Hae-In along if he could use it.

Regardless of Jin-Woo calling forth Kaisel, it would be too late for Cha Hae-In as she’d already perished before his return. In search of an alternative, Jin-Woo contemplates employing Shadow Extraction on Byung Gu’s corpse instead.

Jin-Woo Uses Shadow Extraction on Byung-Gu

In the story, Sung Jin-Woo goes ahead with Shadow Extraction on Min Byung-Gu’s decapitated body, despite Baek Yoon-Ho’s objections. Twice, he struggles to summon Byung-Gu, but on his third try, he successfully brings forth the deceased’s shadow. Once extracted, Byung-Gu’s shadow miraculously mends Cha Hae In’s wounds without any instruction from Jin-Woo, showcasing his S-rank healing abilities and compassionate nature. Luckily, Hae-In makes a full recovery, and Jin-Woo discontinues the skill on Byung Gu, allowing him to find eternal peace.

“Shadows, all of you. Search for the body of hunter Min Byung-Gu’!”—Sung Jin-Woo

In the thrilling world of anime like Solo Leveling, it’s not unusual for protagonists such as Sung Jin-Woo to take extreme actions to save someone’s life. Though some might criticize Jin-Woo for utilizing Byung-Gu in this instance, many others would argue that it was the most effective choice for ensuring Hae-In’s continued existence. Truth be told, Hae-In remains with a glimmer of hope, while Byung-Gu has sadly passed on. Had Jin-Woo stood idly by and allowed Hae-In to perish that day, the consequences would have been far more catastrophic.
