Solo Leveling: Jinwoo’s Shadows, Ranked by Importance

I’m completely captivated by the shadows Sung Jinwoo gathers in Solo Leveling! It’s amazing seeing how he collects these powerful beings – everything from twisted bugs and massive wyverns to mystical shamans and even people who used to be human. Each shadow isn’t just a cool addition, it genuinely helps him in fights and is a key part of building his incredible undead army. They each bring something unique to the battlefield!

In Solo Leveling, Jinwoo’s shadow clones each contribute to his undead army, but a few stand out as particularly valuable. These stronger shadows possess greater power, take on important roles, and are generally more helpful. Without them, Jinwoo would have found leveling up, exploring dungeons, and battling enemies much more difficult and time-consuming.

Greed

Although incredibly powerful as a once top-tier hunter, Greed doesn’t appear often enough in Solo Leveling to truly make a significant impression.

Considering how rarely he appears and his supporting role, it makes sense to rank him last. Although he’s more powerful than Tank, Iron, and Kaisel, he isn’t as reliable or useful in actual battles.

Min Byung-Gu

  • Even though Min Byung-Gu is a recent addition to Jinwoo’s army, he was a crucial helper during the events on Jeju Island, using his healing skills from when he was human.

I watched the events unfold and realized Cha Hae-In likely wouldn’t have survived if it weren’t for Min Byung-Gu. Even though Jinwoo didn’t tell him to, Min Byung-Gu immediately started healing her as soon as she was brought out with the shadow extraction. It struck me that if Jinwoo hadn’t let him go, Min Byung-Gu could have been a real asset to the shadow army, boosting their power. However, when I consider everything, his only real contribution was saving Cha Hae-In, so it’s hard to rank him much higher on the list.

Tank

If Jinwoo needs to break through enemy defenses, Tank is an excellent choice. His aggressive nature lets him charge ahead fearlessly, disrupting the enemy and creating opportunities for Jinwoo and the other shadows to attack.

Although Tank is considered a relatively low-level shadow monster, he’s still a formidable opponent for Jinwoo. Tank is powerful enough to defeat monsters, break through their defenses with sheer force, and act as a dependable frontline fighter when raw strength is required.

Iron

Although Iron isn’t as insightful as Bellion or many of Jinwoo’s other shadows, he’s a valuable fighter. He played a key role in Jinwoo’s victory over Baruka during the Red Gate incident, and he was also a huge help in finding the ingredients for the Elixir of Life, defeating strong enemies and securing risky areas along the way.

Iron consistently steps up to challenges, even against more powerful enemies. He’s incredibly courageous and dedicated to protecting Jinwoo, always willing to confront whatever comes his way. However, despite being a valuable asset, he didn’t quite achieve the same level of rank as some of the stronger shadows like Beru.

Kaisel

Although Kaisel isn’t the most powerful member of Jinwoo’s army, he’s incredibly valuable because of how useful he is. Being able to fly over any landscape, Kaisel allows Jinwoo to quickly reach important places whenever his Shadow Exchange ability is recharging.

Kaisel helps Jinwoo in battles, especially when facing much larger enemies like the giants they fought in Tokyo, by providing aerial support. He’s strong enough to not only carry Jinwoo, but also another person if needed.

Igris

Throughout much of Solo Leveling, Igris acts as Jinwoo’s dedicated protector, functioning like a personal knight. He’s an incredibly skilled swordsman who consistently defends Jinwoo from dangerous enemies and monsters, notably during the Red Gate arc where he flawlessly defeated creatures like ice elves, bears, and yetis.

While Igris isn’t as overwhelmingly powerful as some of Jinwoo’s other generals like Kargalgan or Bellion, and doesn’t have Beru’s agility, he’s still a strong and intelligent leader capable of commanding a portion of the army. Once he reaches his full potential, he’s even strong enough to fight a Monarch-level enemy on his own.

Tusk

Though Tusk isn’t as close to Jinwoo as Beru is, he’s always eager to fight Jinwoo’s opponents. Because the Orb of Avarice trusts him, Tusk’s magic, chants, and shamanic powers are even more devastating. This allows Jinwoo to quickly defeat large groups of enemies thanks to Tusk’s powerful, wide-ranging abilities.

Like the rest of Jinwoo’s forces, Tusk is fiercely loyal. He’ll always support Jinwoo, no matter the difficulty. Even if Jinwoo were to take away something Tusk treasures, his devotion wouldn’t waver.

Beru

Beru is Jinwoo’s biggest fan, completely dedicated to him and treating him like an idol. He’s obsessed with serving Jinwoo, even wanting to take over Bellion’s role as his closest advisor. Anyone who opposes Jinwoo will face Beru’s intense anger, as his loyalty is fierce and unforgiving.

Beru genuinely enjoys assisting Jinwoo and feels down when he’s not needed. He’s proven himself incredibly capable, having completed an A-rank dungeon for Jinwoo and eliminating the last of the mutated ants on Jeju Island. Jinwoo clearly trusts Beru with important jobs, such as ordering him to destroy a giant during the Japan Crisis. Simply put, Beru always delivers, no matter what Jinwoo asks.

Bellion

Bellion is undoubtedly the leader of the shadow army. He’s the most powerful member, and has been faithfully serving the shadow monarch for centuries – long before Jinwoo took charge. He’s incredibly loyal and respected, and significantly strengthens the army’s overall power.

Bellion’s arrival significantly strengthens Jinwoo’s army, tripling its power and giving them a decisive advantage in battle. Jinwoo values Bellion’s advice when planning strategies against tough opponents, recognizing that his experience and instincts can be crucial for victory. Plus, Bellion is capable of leading Jinwoo’s army when needed, making independent decisions to best support his master.
