Fans of “Solo Leveling” were taken aback recently when it was revealed that the story arc “Solo Leveling Ragnarok” had come to an end. Many hadn’t anticipated such a swift conclusion, as they thought there was more to come in the series.
For the first time in many years, we’ve been deprived of weekly installments of “Solo Leveling”. However, there’s a possibility that things might change over the next few weeks. So, is this the end for the series, or can fans anticipate more “Solo Leveling” stories soon?
The Solo Leveling Ragnarok Novel Has Finally Ended
Title | Solo Leveling Ragnarok |
Start date | April 10, 2023 |
End date | July 23, 2025 |
After two years since its serialization, the epic tale of “Solo Leveling Ragnarok” has concluded. The upcoming sequel to the “Solo Leveling” novel is set in a timeframe after the original narrative, focusing on Sung Suho, who is the son of Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In. Due to the dramatic ending of “Solo Leveling”, the world presented in “Ragnarok” may seem slightly disorganized and intricate compared to the original timeline.
In truth, I’d say I functioned more as a “caretaker” rather than a “creator.” I served as a guide in a world that was already flawless.
— Daul
The widely acknowledged follow-up to the original tale, Ragnarok, was not written by the original author; however, it is generally accepted due to Chu-Gong’s statement indicating his belief that Daul skillfully carried on the narrative.
Manhwa “Adaptation” Still on Hiatus
Just as Solo Leveling, Ragnarok also developed a webcomic version, accessible on KakaoPage and Tapas (in English). Unlike the source material, this comic deviates frequently, following a distinct path. In fact, there are some chapters where Suho engages in battles against his “comic counterpart,” which has been met with enthusiasm by fans. Although the webcomic isn’t a faithful adaptation of the story, it retains the key storylines from the novel.
It’s worth mentioning that the Solo Leveling manhwa doesn’t precisely follow the original novel, but it strays less than the Ragnarok manhwa compared to its source material. Regardless, both series have taken a break for a few months now, allowing their creators to plan the upcoming arc. This new arc is expected to bring back the character Cha Hae-In. Given that the novel has concluded, Solo Leveling fans must be patient before more content becomes available.
Solo Leveling Could Spawn a Multiverse
Although some enthusiasts might feel disheartened since the novel has concluded and the manhwa is temporarily on hold, Kakao Entertainment has declared their intention to continue nurturing the franchise. Their statement implies “endless avenues for growth“, hinting at potential Solo Leveling sequels and offshoots. Given that the original story presents opportunities for multiverses, it wouldn’t surprise fans if Kakao Entertainment decides to explore this path.
Moreover, it seems like there’s a wealth of content in the pipeline for “Solo Leveling.” Netflix has officially announced a live-action series, while Aniplex appears to be considering investment for Season 3. It won’t take too long before we see an adaptation of “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” into anime, television series, or even movies. I’m quite excited about it!
Is Solo Leveling Season 3 Confirmed?
Ever since the finale of Solo Leveling Season 2 back in early this year, fans have been eagerly anticipating any announcement regarding Season 3 from Aniplex or Sony. Although numerous speculations have surfaced, no concrete news has been released yet. However, hints from producers and executives point towards ongoing internal discussions about the next season. This suggests that, behind the scenes, they might have already approved the third season, but are biding their time to announce it at an opportune moment.
Despite the possibility, the sequel to the anime might not be a television season but a movie or a collection of movies instead. If this is true, they may have held off on Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle release to decide the ideal strategy for converting the remaining content into films and devise a suitable marketing plan.
Solo Leveling is available to watch on Crunchyroll in the US, subbed and dubbed in many languages.
