Solo Leveling: Ranking the 6 Most Powerful Characters in the Jeju Island Arc

Solo Leveling is an anime adapted from a well-known manga. It centers around Sung Jin-Woo, a Hunter who has the unique ability to grow stronger—something other Hunters can’t do. As the story unfolds, he dramatically improves his skills, rising from the lowest rank (E-Rank) to surpass even the most powerful (S-Rank) Hunters by battling increasingly difficult foes.

Near the end of Season 2 of Solo Leveling, a dangerous new threat emerges: a massive army of ants and their powerful King, taking over Jeju Island. This is the fourth attempt to raid the island, meaning only the most skilled Hunters are selected to participate. The question is, which of these Hunters have truly unique and exceptional abilities?

Choi Jong-In

S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Flame Spear, Flame Prison, Flame Dragon
  • Affiliation: Hunters Guild

As leader of the White Tiger Guild, Choi Jong-In was a natural fit for the Jeju Island raid. He’s Korea’s strongest mage, capable of defeating single targets or entire groups with a single blast of fire magic. Beyond his incredible power, he’s remarkably durable, as demonstrated when he survived a direct attack to the chest from the Ant King during the Jeju Island Arc.

Even though he’s incredibly talented, he consistently lags behind his teammates, particularly in close-quarters combat. He tried to help fight the Ant King, but couldn’t deal significant damage and ultimately had to fall back to protect himself. Despite being Korea’s strongest Mage, he had to rely on his team to carry the fight.

Baek Yoon-Ho

S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Transformation, Eyes of the Beast
  • Affiliation: White Tiger Guild

Baek Yoon-Ho is a powerful fighter, ranked S-Class, and acts as the team’s main defense. Like a traditional ‘tank’ in the world of Solo Leveling, he draws enemy attacks away from his teammates, keeping them safe. He can also transform into a Beast Form, greatly boosting his strength and stamina.

Baek Yoon-Ho helps the Hunter team by providing support and delaying enemies, but he isn’t strong enough to defeat the Ant King – much like Choi Jong-In. As a Tank-type Hunter, he’s not very fast, and he was quickly knocked unconscious during the fight. Despite being powerful, he’s outmatched by both his fellow Hunters and the incredibly dangerous enemies they face.

Goto Ryuji

Japan’s Strongest S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Extreme Strength, Speed, and Reflexes
  • Affiliation: Draw Sword Guild

Ryuji Goto was one of Japan’s most powerful S-Rank Hunters and led the Draw Sword Guild. He was considered the strongest Hunter in Japan, even surpassing all the S-Rank Hunters in Korea. Ryuji possessed incredible strength and speed, which allowed him to land attacks on Jin-Woo, though he ultimately lost their fight.

Ryuji Goto was swiftly defeated by both Jinwoo and Beru, the Ant King. While he managed to dodge the Ant King’s initial strike, a single attack was all it took to finish him off. His quick defeat left the rest of the team struggling to figure out a new plan.

Cha Hae-In

Korea’s Strongest S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Sword Dance, Sword of Light, Quake of Provocation
  • Affiliation: Hunters Guild

Cha Hae-In is the Vice-Guild Master of the Hunters Guild, and she’s proven herself highly capable in the role. During training for the Jeju Island raid, she effortlessly defeated several top-ranked Japanese Hunters, while her Korean teammates found it challenging. She stands out from other Hunters due to her exceptional speed, strength, and skill with a sword.

Despite being quick enough to dodge some of the Ant King’s attacks, she lacked the power to really hurt him, and ultimately suffered serious injuries that forced her to concede. The fact that even this incredibly strong S-Rank Hunter couldn’t inflict damage highlights just how formidable the Ant King truly was.

Beru (Ant King)

Magic Beast

  • Abilities: Gluttony, Flight, Size Manipulation, Paralysis Poison, Ice Magic, etc.
  • Affiliation: Ant Queen, Ant Colony on Jeju Island

The Ant King is the most powerful boss in the Jeju Island S-Rank Gate, easily defeating over eight S-Rank Hunters. It possesses a wide range of dangerous abilities, including changing size, flying, and using ice magic. The Ant King completely took over Jeju Island, wiping out its population, and even defeated the renowned Japanese S-Rank Hunter, Goto Ryuji, with just two attacks.

After overwhelming most of Japan and Korea’s strongest hunters, the Ant King was finally left facing Sung Jin-Woo. Although the Ant King managed to poison Jin-Woo and evade many of his attacks, Jin-Woo ultimately defeated and killed the powerful monster. Considering the Ant King was the strongest boss encountered so far, this victory clearly demonstrates the incredible extent of Jin-Woo’s power.

Sung Jin-Woo

Above S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Stealth, Bloodlust, Quicksilver, Mutilation, Dragon’s Fear, etc.
  • Affiliation: Ahjin Guild

Sung Jin-Woo is incredibly powerful, surpassing all other Hunters and bosses. He’s far stronger, faster, and more resilient than even the highest-ranked Hunters. As the “Player of the System” in Solo Leveling, he can continuously improve his abilities to a degree that others can’t, allowing him to grow beyond the usual Hunter rankings.

I witnessed Sung Jin-Woo fight, and it was incredible. He’s unbelievably resilient, healing quickly and dodging most attacks. I remember his battle with the Ant King vividly – he used a skill called Mutilation to unleash a rapid barrage of attacks, finally taking the boss down. Everyone around us was shocked by his power, and the remaining ants scattered immediately. It was clear why people were starting to call him the second Shadow Monarch.
