Fans were thrilled with Season 2 of *Solo Leveling* earlier this year, praising its stunning animation and exciting battles. Since then, everyone has been eagerly awaiting Season 3, but unfortunately, there’s been no announcement yet. This is especially frustrating considering a recent major event held by Aniplex. While fans are growing impatient, there are valid reasons for the delay. *Solo Leveling* hasn’t gained as much popularity in Japan, and the creators need enough time to produce a season that lives up to the high quality of the first two.
Solo Leveling Season 3 Is Facing Some Issues
- Solo Leveling’s Popularity In Japan Isn’t Great
- Solo Leveling Season 3 Needs Time To Deliver High Quality
Fans are eagerly awaiting Season 3 of Solo Leveling, but so far, there hasn’t been any official announcement. While the directors have made a few small comments, there’s been no substantial news, which is causing some worry among fans about the series’ future.
I know everyone’s eager for news about *Solo Leveling* Season 3, and there’s a good reason why it’s taking a while to get an official announcement. A lot of people assume *Solo Leveling* is huge in Japan, like it is everywhere else, but that’s not really the case. It wasn’t *bad* in Japan, but it didn’t create the same buzz it did internationally. Honestly, it just hasn’t really clicked with Japanese audiences, and that’s a big problem because Japan drives most of the anime and manga market. The rest of the world is almost an afterthought, comparatively!
Atsushi Kaneko expressed excitement about the positive reception to the series, but noted it’s not yet a household name, especially in Japan. He explained that while popular, *Solo Leveling* hasn’t reached the same level of recognition as anime like *Dragon Ball*, *One Piece*, or *Naruto*. He hopes a third season will help the series achieve wider mainstream popularity in Japan.
Beyond its popularity in Japan, it’s important to remember that Solo Leveling is a visually stunning anime that requires a lot of time and effort to maintain its high quality. Director Atsushi Kaneko has shared that the first two seasons alone contained an incredible 220,000 animated frames. Creating this much detail takes a significant amount of time, and expecting animators to complete a season within a year isn’t realistic. A rushed release would ultimately be more damaging than a delayed Season 3. Therefore, the main reason for the delay is simply the time needed to produce a season that meets the show’s standards.
I’m really excited for Season 3, maybe even more than anyone! It took a huge amount of work – 220,000 animated frames – just to get through Seasons 1 and 2. If I had my way, we’d wait until after the 2028 Olympics to start working on it, but ultimately, the decision is up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures.
— Atsushi Kaneko
When Could Solo Leveling Season 3 Come Out?

- 2026 Seems Less Plausible By The Day
- 2027 Or 2028 Seems More Realistic
There’s currently no confirmed release date for Solo Leveling Season 3, but many fans were hoping it would arrive in 2026. However, that now seems unlikely, and rushing the production could result in a lower-quality final season. A more reasonable estimate would be around 2027 or 2028, giving the studio ample time to create a polished product. In fact, the director has expressed a preference for a 2028 release.
Currently, there are 25 episodes of *Solo Leveling* available – the first season has 12 episodes and the second has 13. You can watch both seasons on Crunchyroll. While we wait for news about season 3, reading the original *Solo Leveling* Manhwa is a great way to continue the story.
