This article contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling manhwa.
One of the best parts of Solo Leveling is how it constantly throws unexpected twists at viewers, uncovering important information about Jin-Woo’s powers, his opponents, and secret partnerships. With the end of Solo Leveling Season 2, we can expect even more hidden truths to come to light, including where Jin-Woo’s abilities come from and who the true enemies really are.
The third season of Solo Leveling promises to finally reveal who’s really behind the mysterious gates and dungeons that have been appearing, forcing hunters like Jin-Woo to constantly fight for survival. Throughout the series, these hunters have been bravely clearing gates without ever knowing their true origin or who created them.
Jin-Woo Clears More Gates Than Anyone in Solo Leveling
Jin-Woo Is a True One-Man Army
- No other hunter comes close to Jin-Woo when it comes to Gate clearing.
- Jin-Woo is better off with his shadows inside the Gates.
In the world of Solo Leveling, assessing the danger of a Gate before attempting to clear it is essential. Lower-level Gates are much easier to handle, while higher-level Gates can quickly defeat even the strongest hunters if they aren’t careful. A small mistake can be deadly, and Jin-Woo is keenly aware of these risks.
Currently, Jin-Woo has successfully completed more Gates than any other hunter in Korea. He’s consistently shown he can handle everything from easy to extremely difficult Gates, filled with magical creatures, proving himself a powerful solo fighter. With his strongest Shadow Soldiers by his side, no Gate seems too dangerous and no boss too strong. He’s now capable of tackling challenges on his own, as a team would only slow down his progress and experience gains.
While Jin-Woo is unique in being able to easily clear a high-level Gate, there’s no official record of any other hunter with the same ability. Some top-tier hunters, like Thomas Andre and Sung Il-Hwan, might be capable, but it’s not certain. According to the series author, Chugong, only Cha Hae-In, Jin-Woo’s wife, has been confirmed to be able to complete the Hunters Guild Gate and defeat Kargalgan (now known as Tusk).
The Rulers Created the Gates All Along
Legia Reveals the Truth to Jin-Woo
Although we’ve seen some of the Monarchs in the first two seasons of Solo Leveling, their main enemies, the Rulers, haven’t appeared yet. Only Sung Jin-Woo’s father, Sung Il-Hwan, and the Chairman of the Korean Hunters Association, Go Gun-Hee, have a known connection to the Rulers. Jin-Woo himself doesn’t realize how powerful they are, what they’re planning, or how important they are to the current state of power.
Season 3 of Solo Leveling might reveal more about the powerful Rulers, particularly if the story arc involving the Japan Crisis is included. This arc features Legia, one of the Monarchs, who explains the Rulers’ true intentions and their plan for Earth. According to Legia, the Rulers created the Gates to slowly infuse mana into the planet, preparing it for a future battle between themselves and the other Monarchs.

Legia also helpfully warns Jin-Woo about the monsters appearing from the Gates. These creatures come from a chaotic realm and are leftovers from an ancient war between powerful beings called Rulers and Monarchs. Unfortunately, they’re hostile to humans, as the Rulers have placed magical crystals inside them, driving them to attack and kill people.
The Monarchs Are Still Jin-Woo’s Real Enemies
Even though the Rulers are behind the dangerous Gates, Jin-Woo’s true opponents remain the Monarchs. He’s the Shadow Monarch himself, but he’s an independent person who doesn’t follow orders easily. As the strongest hunter, Jin-Woo acts according to his own judgment and principles, even if it means going against powerful groups like the Rulers and the Monarchs.
Even with both the Monarchs and the Rulers as threats, the Monarchs are Jin-Woo’s primary enemies because their goals put all of humanity in danger. He’s determined to defeat them, and will use all of his strength and cunning to protect those he’s vowed to defend. As a result, Season 3 of Solo Leveling promises to be a thrilling and information-packed arc, revealing more about these incredibly powerful beings.
