The following contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling manhwa and anime.
The captivating plotline, skillfully arranged battle scenes, and exceptional construction of its universe have earned Solo Leveling a special place among anime enthusiasts. Although it was initially released in 2024, this series is now considered one of the most popular anime productions in recent years, and the excitement for its upcoming episode has grown significantly over the last few weeks.
As a curious spectator, it’s not hard to comprehend the mounting anticipation for Season 3 of Solo Leveling. With its promise of ancient monsters poised to bring chaos to our world, and hints at unveiling the enigmas of the System, there’s no denying that this season promises thrilling revelations. Yet, what many enthusiasts may not grasp just yet is that we might finally be introduced to Sung Jinwoo’s ultimate adversary in this gripping tale.
Here Comes the Monarch of Destruction
Antares’ Debut Will Shift the Power Dynamics
- Webtoon Debut: Chapter 163
So far in Solo Leveling, numerous intriguing antagonists have been introduced, each with their distinct perspectives and motivations. However, many of these villains have faced tough challenges from protagonist Sung Jinwoo, who appears nearly invincible due to his extraordinary powers. In the upcoming episodes, there might be a formidable opponent for Jinwoo in the form of the Monarch of Destruction, who could possibly make an appearance and prove to be a challenging rival.
Destroy everything. That is the only mission bestowed to us.
Among all opponents Jinwoo has encountered thus far, Antares stands out uniquely. In ancient times, during a seemingly unending struggle for supremacy between the Rulers and Monarchs, the Monarch of Destruction held significant importance in this conflict. Yet, when the tides shifted in favor of the Rulers, Antares was forced into concealment, biding his time to find an opportune moment to enter the human realm without requiring a suitable host first.
Simultaneously, other rulers didn’t encounter the same challenge in finding a means to travel across dimensions and realms. However, as the ancient malevolent beings set their nefarious plans into motion, they would eventually pave the way for Antares’ arrival. Although Jinwoo has vanquished magical creatures, the Monarch of Destruction will make him doubt his abilities.
What Makes Antares So Frightening?
Antares, often known as the Majestic Dragon Ruler, is among the mightiest entities in existence. He’s been present for countless ages and has engaged in numerous grueling conflicts so far. His unprecedented power makes him the most formidable challenge for a protagonist who’s grown accustomed to effortlessly overcoming his foes.
In my observation, Jinwoo’s casual and self-assured demeanor might not be as effective as he thinks. It could potentially lead to dire consequences if Sung isn’t fully aware. I’ve witnessed the Breath of Destruction by Antares, a power so immense it can annihilate an S-rank hunter in mere seconds. His mastery over fire magic is remarkable, and he often uses it strategically to surprise his opponents.
When speaking about raw strength, there isn’t anyone in the Solo Leveling universe who even comes close to matching the King of Dragons. Not even Ashborn, whom Jinwoo now possesses a fraction of that power.
Notably, Antares is accompanied by a horde of dragons, each powerful enough to cause significant harm to elite hunters worldwide. Moreover, the Monarch of Destruction possesses the ability to materialize his spiritual body and assume the form of a colossal dragon. This transformation enables him to reveal his true spiritual shape, enhancing his combat skills so drastically that merely being near him can inflict severe damage on his surroundings. Consequently, it’s no wonder that hunters at the national level struggle against him.
Antares possesses additional otherworldly abilities that could endanger Jinwoo during their encounter. Although Sung undergoes significant transformations over upcoming storylines, he remains uncertain about defeating the Dragon King. What sets the Destroyer Monarch apart as truly fearsome is his unshakable belief in his powers, giving him an almost invincible air, and rightly so.
Similar to many monarchs, Antares seems to regard humans as expendable, viewing their eradication as inconsequential. His chilling philosophy, combined with powers that match or surpass those of any being ever born, make Antares a truly terrifying antagonist. He is devoid of compassion for the multitude of lives he destroys. As he enters Solo Leveling Season 3, Antares will irrevocably alter the balance of power in the human world.
Solo Leveling Season 3 is expected to release sometime between 2026 and 2028.
