Solo Leveling’s Best Episode Has Finally Been Dethroned

This article contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling and My Hero Academia series.

The anime series Solo Leveling debuted in early 2024 and quickly became a hit with fans. While the story is fairly straightforward, it’s highly entertaining. Due to its popularity, a second season was announced soon after the first finished and released in Winter 2025. Solo Leveling Season 2 improved upon the first, offering even better action and storytelling. The series consistently received near-perfect scores, and its best episode earned a remarkable 9.6 rating on IMDb, demonstrating its dominance in the anime world.

It’s rare for an anime like Solo Leveling to receive such high praise, indicating its episodes truly impressed everyone. But as new anime releases come out in 2025, one recent episode appears to have surpassed even Solo Leveling‘s best. The third episode of My Hero Academia Season 8—the show’s final season—focused on the intense fight between Bakugo and All For One, and it’s now considered better than any episode from Solo Leveling Season 2.

My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 3 Dethrones Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 12

My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 3 Is A Masterpiece

  • Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 12 Is Rated 9.6 on IMDb
  • My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 3 Is Rated 9.7 on IMDb

Watching Season 2 of Solo Leveling was a real treat. It had 13 episodes, and the clear standout for me, and a lot of other fans, was episode 12, “Are You the King of Humans?” That episode wrapped up the amazing fight between Sung Jinwoo and the Ant King during the Jeju Island story arc. Everyone was just blown away by how good the animation looked – it was a truly impressive spectacle.

Atsushi Kaneko expressed excitement about the series’ reception but believes it hasn’t yet reached mainstream popularity in Japan. While the anime is doing well, it isn’t as widely known as established giants like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto. He hopes a third season will help it achieve that level of recognition.

The latest episode of My Hero Academia has become a fan favorite, surpassing even the most popular episode of Solo Leveling. Season 8, Episode 3, which features an amazing fight between Bakugo and All For One, has been praised for its excellent direction and high-quality production. It currently holds a 9.7 rating on IMDb, making it the highest-rated episode of both series, and fans are excited for what’s to come.

Despite already receiving excellent reviews, the best is still to come in My Hero Academia Season 8. The quality so far has been consistently high, even surpassing the source manga, and fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next, especially as Deku’s showdown with Shigaraki Tomura approaches. This battle is set to be the series’ biggest, and viewers are excited to see how it will be rated. For now, fans can simply enjoy the ride as My Hero Academia heads toward its finale.

“I think more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a Season 3! But in truth, between Season 1 and Season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created. So, if it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics (2028) to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3. But I think that’s more up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures.” — Atsushi Kaneko

I’ve been following Solo Leveling, and right now there are two seasons available. The first has 12 episodes, and the second has 13, bringing the total to 25 episodes you can watch now. If you’re enjoying the anime, you can find it streaming on Crunchyroll. While we all wait for news about season three, a lot of fans are diving into the original Manhwa – it’s a great way to experience the story!
