Summary
- Jin-Woo used the party system with Esil Radiru, an experience-sharing feature in Solo Leveling.
- Fans think the party system holds untapped potential, possibly affecting other hunters as well.
- Ultimately, Solo Leveling seems to forget the party system after initially introducing and using it.
In the world of Solo Leveling, the system is structured to facilitate Sung Jin-Woo’s progression, prioritizing his survival above all else as he advances through levels. One exceptional feature among many is the party system, which appeared during the Return to Demon Castle storyline in the series. Although Jin-Woo utilized this party system, it seems that the narrative of Solo Leveling might not have fully explored or revisited this particular function afterwards.
The party function is one of several game-like elements within the system, which also includes daily tasks, an inventory, and a virtual store. This feature has great potential for expansion, not only for Jin-Woo but potentially for other hunters too, due to its advantages. However, as events unfold, it appears that Jin-Woo neglects this function after trying it just once.
This article contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok webtoons.
How Does the Party System Work?
It’s All About Experience Sharing
- Jin-Woo uses the party system with Esil Radiru.
- The party system is an experience-sharing feature.
In the captivating world of Solo Leveling, I first encountered the intriguing party system during the Return to the Demon Castle storyline. It was then that Sung Jin-Woo, the protagonist, welcomed Esil Radiru into his party. With Esil serving as a guide for Jin-Woo to acquire the necessary entry passes to ascend the tower’s upper levels, this party system facilitated their journey by enabling them to traverse movement circles together. However, from Jin-Woo’s standpoint, there was a significant drawback: sharing his journey with Esil could potentially result in the loss of experience points.
“You attacked my soldiers and now you’re asking for forgiveness?”—Sung Jin-Woo to Esil Radiru
It appears that the party system functions much like a team in a video game, where members can earn experience points based on their unique actions. If Esil joins a fight, the experience points would be distributed, which isn’t beneficial for Jin-Woo, who is eager to level up rapidly. However, Jin-Woo manages to bypass this disadvantage by clearly instructing Esil to keep away from battles, allowing him to accumulate all the experience on his own.
The Potential of the Party System
The What Ifs

- Fans think the party system is a missed opportunity.
- Others believe the system has ill intentions behind the party feature.
Beyond the game’s party function, it’s widely understood that gatherings similar to parties take place in reality too. In these gatherings, teams of diverse hunters function much like party members, collaborating to thrive against the enchanted beasts that inhabit them. Although they don’t earn experience points or level up through a system, they acquire genuine combat experience which they can apply in future raids.
I firmly believe that the strategic use of parties in the Hunter’s world could lead to some hunters, like myself, experiencing a noticeable power boost. For instance, if I were to team up with Jin-Ho, a tanker like him might have developed sufficient strength to leap from D-rank to at least A-rank status. However, associating with Korea’s S-rank hunters would be quite risky, as it could potentially expose the secrets of this intricate system we navigate.
From what I understand, it seems quite likely that the party system built into the original system designed by the architect was intended as a trap. Instead of strengthening alliances, it would more likely serve as a form of punishment for Jin Woo when he chose to engage in conflicts with others during his journey toward becoming a monarch.
Although the feature might have been incredibly effective, many fans suspect it’s exclusively found within the demon castle and can’t function in reality, which could account for Jin-Woo being able to socialize with Jin-Woo without complications. Some argue that the party system was a clever ruse devised by the system’s creator to test if Jin-Woo would fully embrace his role as the sole player within the system. If Jin-Woo ever tried to utilize the feature with other hunters, it could lead to severe consequences from the system’s architect through the platform.
So, Did Solo Leveling Forget the Party System?
It Was Only Mentioned and Used Once

In essence, Solo Leveling largely disregards the party system element after it’s been briefly employed by Sung Jin-Woo. By the conclusion of the webtoon, this feature is entirely unused and overlooked, which leaves readers feeling that a significant opportunity for hunter growth was wasted.
One possible explanation for not delving deeper into the party system could be that the story primarily revolves around Sung Jin-Woo’s personal growth, given the series title highlights individual power. Delving into a team dynamic might seem contradictory to this focus. Another factor could be the limited relevance of the feature, as Jin-Woo demonstrates exceptional abilities that allow him to overcome challenges single-handedly without the need for a balanced team. Furthermore, creating and developing the roles of Jin-Woo’s party members would require considerable time from the author.
“I want to borrow her for a bit.”—Sung Jin-Woo to Esil Radiru’s Father
Since Jin-Woo demolished the original system, it became impossible to reinstate the party system function until the debut of “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok”. For those yearning for the party system, “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” presents an opportunity to observe how Jin-Woo employs this feature in a novel system he has created. This could deepen fans’ understanding of its full capacity.
