Due to the recent news that the Warner Bros. fighting game MultiVersus will be closed in May, those who invested in its $100 Founder’s Pack are expressing frustration.
At its debut in 2022, the game arrived featuring a Founder’s Pack. This pack served as an opportunity for gamers to back the Super Smash Bros. analog while receiving several perks. Of particular interest were the 30 Character Tokens, which enabled players to introduce new characters to the game’s cast. Additionally, it came with 2500 Gleamium, the premium currency of the game.
Yet, many gamers find themselves unable to utilize all their earned rewards, as they end up owning items they can’t make use of. Dissatisfied players have been voicing their concerns on the game’s subreddit.
“One fan stated that they were selling ‘Founders’ between July 2022 and February 2023. The roster, at its maximum, consisted of 23 characters, with ‘Marvin’ being the most recent addition in November 2022.”
Before acquiring Founders, players already had the opportunity to purchase the entire team. However, WB continued to sell Founders to these same players, guaranteeing them 30 playable character tokens.
Others objected, arguing that the game boasted over thirty characters available for purchase, providing ample chances for players to use their Character Tokens. Yet, the majority of gamers were employing alternative means to acquire characters or holding onto tokens for more sought-after options instead.
This Isn’t The First Time Players Expressed Concerns About MultiVersus
After a triumphant debut during open beta, Player First Games temporarily removed MultiVersus from service in early 2023, causing disappointment among fans. The game reached an impressive milestone of over 20 million users in September 2022, but due to insufficient content updates, the developers decided to focus on a soft reboot before the formal release.
Regrettably, the planned revival of the game in 2024 didn’t gain the expected momentum compared to its open beta phase. A major contributing factor was the unappealing methods used for monetization.
Enthusiasts calculated that approximately 40 hours of player-versus-player (PVP) gaming is needed to acquire a fresh character. The Joker demands an extended period, with nearly 80 hours of game time required for his release.
After the Founder’s Pack was removed from service in early 2023, it became impossible for players to invest $100 and instantly gain access to 30 characters. From then on, the only method available to unlock characters was by dedicating numerous hours to playing the game.
