Some Unlucky PS Plus Subscribers Are Getting Fewer Free Games in December

December 2025’s free PlayStation Plus games are now available to download. However, some players in certain regions are receiving only three games this month, while most other locations are getting five. All PlayStation Plus subscription levels (Essential, Extra, and Premium) get new games each month, and while three is typical, Sony added two extra free games this time. Unfortunately, not all players are receiving the full set of five.

Every month on the first Tuesday, PlayStation adds new games for its PS Plus members (Essential, Extra, and Premium). While some months offer better selections than others, December was particularly exciting – PlayStation surprised everyone with five games instead of the usual three! Until January 6th, subscribers can download and keep LEGO Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, Synduality Echo of Ada, and Neon White as long as they remain PlayStation Plus members. Don’t forget to add them to your library before the next set of games is released, or you’ll miss out!

Some PlayStation Plus Subscribers Are Missing Free Games for December 2025

PlayStation Plus subscribers are enjoying new free games like Killing Floor 3 and The Outlast Trials, but some players, particularly in Japan, have a different selection. Japanese subscribers only have access to LEGO Horizon Adventures, Neon White, and Synduality Echo of Ada. Sony hasn’t explained why, but it’s likely due to local laws and regulations. The exclusion of the violent games The Outlast Trials and Killing Floor 3 in Japan may be due to censorship. Other regions are also affected – The Outlast Trials is banned in Saudi Arabia, and Synduality Echo of Ada isn’t available in the Netherlands and Belgium because of rules around online gambling.

This kind of issue has happened before. PlayStation has occasionally swapped games for players in certain regions when a title isn’t available there. For example, PlayStation Plus subscribers in Hong Kong received a different set of games in January – they got DEEEER Simulator instead of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, while the rest of the world got Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, and The Stanley Parable. Unfortunately, it seems players in Japan aren’t getting substitute games this month and will simply miss out on the two extra December games.

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members have a new game to enjoy starting December 8th: Skate Story. This third-person skateboarding game, created by Sam Eng and published by Devolver Digital, puts you in the role of a demon who gets a skateboard from the devil. You’ll perform tricks like ollies and kickflips as you navigate the underworld, and if you can skate all the way to the moon, the devil will finally release the demon from their eternal torment.

While it’s exciting when new games are added to PS Plus right away, several titles are also leaving the service soon. On December 16th, twelve games will be removed, including popular choices like Battlefield 2042, Grand Theft Auto 3 – The Definitive Edition, and Sonic Frontiers. PS VR players will also be affected, with three VR games being taken down. This trend of removing VR titles without replacing them at the same rate is becoming a worry for many users.
