In World of Warcraft, players need to pick a side – Alliance or Horde – before they can use the new Player Housing system in the Midnight expansion. Most players won’t be affected by this, but those who’ve been leveling up without choosing a faction might have to switch to either the Alliance or the Horde if they want to enjoy the new housing feature.
The highly anticipated Player Housing feature is coming with the Midnight expansion. However, you won’t have to wait until the expansion’s full release to start building your dream home! Early access will begin on December 2nd with World of Warcraft Patch 11.2.7, titled “The Warning.”
Neutral World of Warcraft Characters Can’t Access Player Housing
During the upcoming update and with the release of Midnight, a limited number of World of Warcraft characters won’t be able to use the new Player Housing feature. Streamer NeutralAgent discovered this while testing the feature on the PTR. He found that neutral Pandaren characters who haven’t completed their starting area and chosen a faction are unable to teleport to the housing zones, meaning they can’t access Housing at this time.
Dracthyr Evokers start out as neutral characters and would likely face the same limitations as others in that state.
NeutralAgent is a dedicated World of Warcraft player known for a unique challenge: leveling up characters to the maximum level without ever leaving the starting area. He primarily accomplishes this by gathering herbs using the Herbalism skill, and has successfully done so in every World of Warcraft expansion. As of The War Within, he’s leveled all eight Pandaren classes to 80, and is now preparing to do it again with Midnight.

While it’s disappointing for players like NeutralAgent, it makes sense that neutral characters can’t access the Housing neighborhoods. These areas aren’t restricted by Alliance or Horde, but they are still designed around those factions. It’s unlikely this will change when the game officially releases, as allowing neutral characters to interact with Alliance and Horde players isn’t currently possible and would create significant technical challenges.
Fortunately, most World of Warcraft players won’t be impacted by this. When the update releases, players can simply pre-order World of Warcraft: Midnight and create a character to use the new Housing feature, unless they’re playing as a Neutral Pandaren or a Dracthyr.
