With excitement growing for the second season of The Last of Us, its showrunner Craig Mazin has disclosed that adapting the second game is likely his final contribution to the franchise. Although Season 2 will still be based on The Last of Us Part 2, Mazin mentioned that he won’t participate in any upcoming spin-offs, considering this his “last hurrah” with The Last of Us. He continues to admire the universe, but if the storyline extends beyond the main plot, he feels it’s time for a new person to lead the way.
