Concord is back online! A team of modders brought the game back to life by creating their own servers. This happened over a year after Sony removed Concord from sale and shut down its servers, marking a surprisingly short lifespan for the game as a live service.
Although the fan-created version of Concord is still under development, it’s functional enough to demonstrate that the project is viable and progressing. The fact that people have already been able to play a match is a pleasant surprise for a game many thought would be abandoned, and it’s giving Concord an unexpected new life.
Concord Is Playable Again, Thanks to Dedicated Fans
Concord struggled from the start. It was released as a full-priced game in a market where players generally expect hero-shooters to be free, which immediately hurt its chances. When players tried it, they found it didn’t offer enough unique features to stand out from other games in the genre, and interest quickly faded.
As fewer people played, the game felt emptier each week. It became clear that the game wouldn’t gain popularity, and Sony ultimately decided to cancel Concord altogether.
Recently, fans have managed to bring the online game Concord back to life through privately run servers, as reported by Kotaku. While still a work in progress and a bit unstable, it’s playable thanks to the dedication of modders known as Red, open_wizard, and gwog. Red announced on the project’s Discord that Concord is now functioning through these custom servers.
We’re excited to announce that after a lot of hard work on the game’s code and servers, we’ve finally been able to play a match of Concord! It’s still a work in progress and has some bugs, but it’s playable. We’re planning to start private playtesting once the servers are fully ready, so if you’re interested in joining, please let us know.
Currently, Concord is back in a limited and somewhat unstable form, maintained by a small, dedicated team who brought it back to life. The fact that it’s running at all is unexpected and exciting for fans. It’s unclear if the project will expand, but it’s a start and offers possibilities not seen since the game was taken offline.
