As a gamer with a soft spot for strategy games and a deep appreciation for mythology, particularly Scandinavian folklore, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming Songs of Conquest Vanir DLC! The prospect of commanding a raiding nation inspired by Vikings and their legendary beasts is truly enticing.
In simple terms, Lavapotion unveiled the initial significant expansion pack for their turn-based strategy game titled Songs of Conquest. This forthcoming content, known as the Vanir DLC, will enrich the game by introducing a new playable faction, various units, a unique biome, and additional features during the winter season.
According to Lavapotion, the Vanir faction is inspired by Scandinavian and Viking folklore.
In the realm of Aerbor, the Vanir are descendants of both indebted Baryans and Arleon settlers who have evolved into a pillaging nation, roaming the unforgiving Eastern territories in search of wealth. Unfortunately, the East is a hostile landscape, compelling the Vanir to ally with wild creatures called Vildra, which grant them the ability to transform into terrifying beasts filled with fury and strength.
Songs Of Conquest Vanir DLC Details
The arrival of a new faction introduces fresh units for players to utilize. In total, there are now eight different units available to construct your armies when playing as Vanir. These new units include:
- Huskarl – a sturdy warrior equipped with a spear and shield that can transform into a Korphan
- Berserker – a juggernaut full of rage that can change into a mighty bear to challenge any who seek to hurt their brethren
- Chieftain – a commander of the Vanir force that can grow to enormous proportions and become the gigantic and mighty Jormr
- Swine – embodying the mythological beast eaten by gods each night only to be resurrected the next day
- Troll
- Lyke
- Bacahorse
- Nornor
Additionally, you’ll find nine fresh Wielder hero units, five brand-new Conquest battlefields, and two additional Challenge maps in this DLC expansion. These maps have been designed to provide a tough test for players as they familiarize themselves with the new faction and terrain.
A Change In Plans
The unveiling of the Vanir DLC deviates from the earlier outlined plan. Originally slated for release in spring 2025, the launch date was adjusted following input from gamers.
Instead of unveiling a substantial expansion next year, showcasing two novel factions and an extensive new campaign as initially planned, we decided to prioritize our player feedback and bring out content earlier. This earlier rollout begins with the launch of the Vanir DLC this winter, as Lavapotion’s founder and CEO Magnus Alm stated.
The release date for the Rise Eternal campaign has been delayed from its initial fall 2024 schedule due to a shift in development priorities.
This winter, the Songs of Conquest: Vanir expansion pack hits the shelves. More specific details about its launch date and cost are yet to come. Currently, you can play it on Steam, with plans for future releases on mobile platforms, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as well.
