As a long-time Sonic fan who has witnessed the ups and downs of this iconic character’s journey, I must say that Sega’s recent announcement left me pleasantly surprised! The decision to delist Sonic Generations from Steam but keep it alive through the “Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle” is a testament to their commitment towards game preservation.
Anticipating the launch of Sonic X Shadow Generations on October 24, 2024, there’s been much discussion among fans regarding the future of the initial Sonic Generations Collection available on Steam.
Fortunately, in their FAQ about delisting, Sega mentioned that they will indeed remove the original game on September 9th. However, they also assured players that they would provide a method for enjoying the game in its authentic version.
Instead of removing the game from Steam, as several other companies do, they will now incorporate it into a “Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Pack” priced at $59.99, which includes the following games:

As a devoted fan, I must say, whether this collection is a worthwhile investment given its high price point is something we fans might ponder over. Yet, it’s truly refreshing to witness a company stand firm and keep a game on Steam, even when financial advisors might suggest that such a move could potentially hinder the success of the newer version.
