Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds DLC Could Feature Deep-Cut Sonic Characters

According to the lead of Sonic Team, future downloadable content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds might include some lesser-known Sonic characters.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds came out in 2025 and was a hit with critics. A key part of what made the game special was the addition of characters from other popular worlds, like SpongeBob, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Minecraft, expanding the gameplay options.

Beyond the current lineup, there are many older Sonic characters who could also be included in the new racing game.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Should Represent All Eras of Sonic

Takashi Iizuka recently spoke with MCV Magazine (as reported by Video Games Chronicle) about the possibility of adding more characters from Sonic’s history as downloadable content. He was specifically asked if characters from the 1990s TV show or the IDW comics might be included.

Takashi Iizuka has observed the strong fan enthusiasm for Sonic’s broader story and wants to include elements from all periods of the franchise. He feels that if the opportunity is right, anything could happen.

Man, the Sonic fanbase is really dedicated, and honestly, we get it! We’re definitely considering adding some of those more obscure characters if it feels right for the game. With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, we’re aiming to include stuff from all throughout Sonic history – we want it to be a celebration of everything!

This doesn’t guarantee the return of beloved characters like Sally Acorn, but it suggests that surprising new additions are still possible down the line.

Sonic the Hedgehog is celebrating 35 years! To mark the occasion, a new audio drama featuring the Chaotix is coming to podcasts. You can find more details here.

We’re curious – are there any lesser-known Sonic characters you’d love to see included in the racing game? Let us know your thoughts on our official Discord server! Plus, be sure to subscribe to our weekly newsletter for more updates.
