Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Reveals Joker DLC Release Date and Festival

Sega revealed that a big new free update is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on October 22nd. This update will add Joker from the Persona series as a playable character, and also include a special, limited-time festival. Sega often adds characters from other popular games as free updates to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, letting players race with heroes and villains from different worlds.

Just before revealing details about an upcoming event, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduced Hatsune Miku as a guest racer through a special festival. Players could join different team-based game modes and complete challenges to earn unique rewards and tickets. Now, following that successful event, CrossWorlds is hosting its second large-scale festival since its release, and this time it will feature a well-known character from another popular Sega game, Persona.

Persona’s Joker Is Coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

If you’re a fan of both Persona and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, get ready! Joker from Persona will be joining the game on October 22nd. On October 23rd, a special in-game festival celebrating Joker will begin, giving players the chance to win unique rewards. This festival will last until October 26th, but like other events, it will temporarily disable World Match.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Joker Festival Details

  • Joker Character Addition Date: Wednesday, October 22
  • Joker Festival Start Date: Thursday, October 23 at 8:00 PM ET
  • Joker Festival End Date: Sunday, October 26 at 7:59 PM ET

Joker isn’t new to the game; a test version of his content was available during the beta phase of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but it was removed for the official launch. Now that Joker is officially here, the next character expected to be added is Kasuga Ichiban from the Like a Dragon series. While there’s no firm date for Ichiban’s release yet, previous updates suggest he’ll be available soon.

Fans have mixed reactions to the latest updates. While many are thrilled about the addition of Joker from Persona, others are concerned about how Sega is running the in-game festivals. Some players feel it’s unfair to restrict access to World Match and force participation in temporary events, which can slow down their overall progress. Others worry that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds events are happening too frequently, leaving little time to enjoy other parts of the game. There’s also a concern that dedicating so many weekends to festival matches might actually be detrimental to the game in the long run.

It’s unclear if Sega will adjust the timing of in-game events based on player opinions, or keep things as they are. Producer Takashi Iizuka recently mentioned to Polygon that Sega is listening to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds players and welcomes suggestions for future downloadable content characters. While this suggests they’re open to feedback, many fans believe the developers prioritize adding new characters over addressing what the community truly wants.
