This week, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is getting even more downloadable content with a Pac-Man themed update, giving players plenty of new things to experience. It’s been a successful year for SEGA and the game, which launched in late 2025 and quickly became a hit with fans. While Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds didn’t win The Game Award for Best Sports/Racing Game, it continues to be a popular choice for many gamers.
Despite launching in the same year as Nintendo’s Mario Kart World on the Switch 2, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds proved to be a hit, earning strong sales and positive feedback from both critics and players. SEGA actively embraced the competition – Sonic Team’s head, Takashi Iizuka, even playfully teased their rival. Beyond being available on multiple platforms, SEGA has kept the game exciting with regular downloadable content, continually adding new characters and features to the already extensive lineup.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Pac-Man DLC Release Date
- January 7, 2026
Okay, so SEGA just dropped some awesome news! The next big DLC pack featuring Pac-Man is coming out on January 7, 2026! They teased it with a trailer that felt like playing the original Pac-Man arcade game – complete with a leaderboard revealing the release date. At the end, we got a peek at a brand new Pac-Man themed machine and they’re adding four racers: Pac-Man himself, plus Inky, Blinky, Clyde, and Pinky. They also hinted at a new course, but kept that under wraps, so everyone’s trying to guess what it’ll look like. I’m so hyped!
Just like the recent Sonic Racing CrossWorlds update, the launch of the Pac-Man content will be celebrated with a special, limited-time event starting January 8th. The good news is everyone can join in, even if they don’t purchase the Pac-Man add-on! While specific details are still to come, the event will probably be similar to past festivals, offering players a chance to earn unique rewards. However, World Match won’t be available during the event, and will likely be unlocked only after it ends on January 11th.
SEGA is heavily focused on releasing downloadable content (DLC) for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. While games like Mario Kart usually add characters from their own company, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is doing the opposite, bringing in characters from other brands. We’ve already seen additions like Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Pac-Man, with more planned for the future. A teaser hinted at crossovers with Sonic Racing and Mega Man, and later in 2026, content from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem and Avatar Legends will be added. Details about the new racers, vehicles, and tracks are still upcoming, so players will need to wait for further announcements.
Image via SEGA While paid downloadable content wasn’t the only addition after launch, SEGA also released a lot of free updates. Players could get the Blue Star Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders simply by creating and linking a SEGA account. SEGA has also included content from other popular franchises like NiGHTS, Like a Dragon, and Super Monkey Ball as DLC, offering new characters, machines, and items.
