As a Sonic Unleashed fan, I’m thrilled to share that Sega has dropped some exciting news! Apotos and Holoska are joining the race in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which is fantastic news for us gamers! Despite facing tough competition in 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds doesn’t seem to be falling short on content. These recent announcements only reinforce that expectation.

As a die-hard Sonic fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Sonic Racing: CrossWorld was unveiled at The Games Awards 2024! The big reveal came during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast on February 12, and finally, we got a sneak peek at the gameplay. Although Sega hasn’t announced an official release date yet, they graciously allowed us to test out the gameplay through a network test in February. During this PS5-exclusive event, I had the opportunity to explore some tracks and characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. To make things even more exhilarating, they showcased the CrossWorld feature, which gives the racer leading the pack the power to switch tracks during the second lap of the race!

Anticipating the 2025 launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega has given a sneak peek at some additional tracks that will be added to the game. The Apotos and Holoska courses were unveiled in social media snippets. Apotos is set to become a main course, while Holoska will be one of the new destinations players will traverse during races. The icy Holoska track boasts a visually stunning design, particularly with its auroras and giant whales, which might appeal to fans of Sonic Unleashed. On the other hand, Apotos seems to replicate the distinctive appearance of Windmill Isle, with landscapes and music familiar to fans. Remarkably, the layout of the Apotos course appears quite similar to the day stage from the 2008 game.

Holoska and Apotos Gameplay in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

It’s pleasing to note that Sonic Unleashed will make an appearance in the upcoming racing game. While certain aspects of its adventure mode, particularly the night stages, were met with criticism, the boost mechanics garnered appreciation and have been incorporated in other series installments. Even when it was initially launched in 2008, Sonic Unleashed boasted decent graphics, and it appears that the lively tracks transfer effectively to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

As fans eagerly anticipate an official release date, the game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been rated by the Australian Classification Board recently. This suggests that the game is likely to still be on schedule for a launch later in 2025, possibly providing some distance from the highly anticipated June 5 release of Mario Kart World for Switch 2. Although Mario Kart World has faced criticism over its $80 price tag, it’s expected to be a significant sales booster for Nintendo. Consequently, it will be intriguing to observe how this could influence potential sales for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds when it eventually debuts.
