Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Won’t Be Influenced By Mario Kart World

The producer of the Sonic series clearly mentioned that Sonic Racing CrossWorlds was developed independently of Mario Kart World, having no influence whatsoever from it.

In just a few weeks, on September 25, 2025, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will be available! Before its official launch, fans get an opportunity to play it early during a network test in mid-September. Interestingly, the creators have shared that development of their upcoming game wasn’t affected by Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World Did Not Influence Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Development Plans

In an interview with Traxion (through MyNintendoNews), Sonic Series Producer Takashi Iizuka discussed how Mario Kart World influenced Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. Izuka admitted that, like others, they weren’t privy to the “release schedule” of Mario Kart games and were taken aback when it came out. Simultaneously, they had anticipated a new karting game from Nintendo due to their habit of launching a new one alongside new hardware.

In a recent statement, Iizuka explained, “Regardless of whether Mario Kart was coming out, our aim has always been to create the ultimate Sonic racing experience. This objective remains unaltered; the release of Mario Kart World won’t impact it in any way.” Izuka further discussed the distinct features of their game, such as cross-play capabilities, a customizable gadget system, characters from various other franchises, Travel Rings, and more.

Izuka explained that these characteristics bring “a sense of complexity” to the racing experience, which sets our game apart from other kart races. Regardless of the announcement of Mario Kart World, he emphasized, our development strategies remained unchanged.
