Sonic Rumble Delayed Again

Summary

  • Sonic Rumble‘s global launch has been delayed to spring 2025.
  • Rovio offered a preview of the game’s next big update, which will introduce quick-play and ranked modes, as well as support for player clans.
  • Sonic Rumble was originally soft-launched in August 2024 and is currently available in dozens of countries.

The release date for Sonic Rumble has been moved to the spring season of 2025. This delay was disclosed in conjunction with a sneak peek at the upcoming update for Sonic Rumble, which teases significant improvements, such as introducing two brand-new gameplay modes.

First introduced in May 2024, the multiplayer party game titled “Sonic Rumble” features battle royale-style contests for up to 32 players. This game has been under development at Rovio since roughly the same time as Sega’s 2023 acquisition of the company behind Angry Birds. The soft launch occurred in Colombia and Peru in August 2024, followed by expansion to over 40 other countries. Initially, Rovio mentioned an international release scheduled for winter, which suggests it will be available between December 2024 and March 2025.

Rovio has just announced that they are moving back the release date for “Sonic Rumble”. Instead of coming out this year as previously planned, it will now be launched worldwide on PC and mobile platforms in spring 2025. The announcement also included a sneak peek at version 1.2.0 of the game, which includes several exciting new features for “Sonic Rumble”.

Sonic Rumble Content Roadmap

Among the exciting features in the upcoming update is Quick Rumble, a simplified gameplay mode designed for quick and easy sessions. Unlike the full battle royale experience, this mode focuses on short, standalone challenges, making it an ideal choice for playing Sonic Rumble on-the-go. Additionally, version 1.2.0 will unveil a competitive mode called Rival Rank. While details about the rewards are yet to be disclosed, the developers hinted that progressing up the rankings will yield additional perks.

Sonic Rumble Might Have eSports Potential

Introducing Rival Rank could indicate that Rovio might be considering delving into the competitive potential of Sonic Rumble, given their previous experimentation with eSports. The Finnish firm has already dipped its toes in the eSports scene through Angry Birds Champions 2018 – a competitive version of their popular game developed in partnership with WorldWinner, a platform specializing in skill-based gaming.

The update version 1.2.0 for Sonic Rumble is set to introduce Crews, a fresh feature that allows multiple players to form teams to conquer challenges synchronously. Forming clans will be rewarded in ways yet to be disclosed. Additionally, the update will present an array of exclusive character skills, as described by Rovio as both helpful and fitting within the game’s lore. Although specifics about this feature are limited, Rovio did give an example: the ability to stun enemies using Amy’s Piko Piko Hammer. It’s anticipated that Rovio will announce a definite global release date for their free-to-play game in the near future. Before then, interested players can still pre-register for the game and secure some digital rewards as a token of appreciation.
