Sony And Gears Of War Devs Enter Agreement For Mysterious New Project

Summary

  • People Can Fly partners with Sony to develop a game under Sony’s IP, raising fan excitement.
  • The game, “Project Delta,” may be connected to one of Sony’s dormant IPs, possibly SOCOM.
  • Chances are Project Delta may not be released on the PS5, indicating a potential PS6 launch.

Amidst Sony’s numerous video game cancellations this year, there’s some positive news to share! People Can Fly, the talented team behind titles like Bulestorm, Outriders, and Gears of War: Judgment, has officially joined forces with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to create a brand-new game.

The unnamed game, known internally as “Project Delta,” derives from the intellectual property (IP) owned by Sony. Having a seasoned shooter studio develop one of Sony’s IPs is already generating enthusiasm among fans.

People Can Fly’s Project Delta Could Be Tied To One Of Sony’s Dormant IPs

The document titled “People Can Fly” agreement is now accessible on the company’s website, having been previously translated from Polish into English using a machine.

On March 13, 2025, PCF Group S.A., headquartered in Warsaw, has announced a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, located in San Mateo, California, U.S.A., for the development of a prototype of a new video game known as Project Delta. This collaboration, outlined in the Production Agreement, is based on intellectual property rights owned by Sony.

Under this Production Agreement, the Company’s responsibilities involve creating the Product following a work-for-hire arrangement. In simpler terms, this means that the Company is developing the Product on behalf of and for the benefit of the Publisher. The compensation for the Company’s efforts will be as previously agreed upon with the Publisher.

Following the terms set in our Production Contract, we’ll break down the work on the Project into distinct phases or checkpoints. The specifics about our collaboration and payments for each phase are outlined in the appendix to the Production Contract, which is known as the Milestone Schedule.

In simple terms, the terms and conditions of this Production Agreement are quite similar to those found in standard production agreements associated with comparable projects.

The finalization of the Production Agreement aligns with the recent update of the Company’s Strategy, as announced on 31 January 2023 by the Company. This update stated that if enticing chances for collaboration with well-known partners in a work-for-hire arrangement surface, the Company intends to seize these opportunities when they arise.

When I glanced at this, the first video game series that came to mind was SOCOM. This is partly because People Can Fly’s previous work suggests they favor shooter games. Since Sony declined a pitch for a fourth Resistance game, and Killzone is developed by Guerrilla Games internally, it seems reasonable to assume that SOCOM might be the studio’s next project.

Additionally, there’s the seldom-mentioned MAG, though it seems unlikely that Sony would opt for its resurrection in favor of such a cherished franchise like SOCOM.

The most recent installment of the SOCOM series, SOCOM 4, was launched on the PS3 back in 2011. However, it received unfavorable reviews from both critics and gamers, leading to its gradual decline. By 2014, multiplayer servers for the game were shut down. Since then, there has been no news about the franchise.

It seems that since People Can Fly recently signed a deal with Sony this month, it’s likely that the game won’t be released for quite some time. It’s even possible that Project Delta might bypass the PlayStation 5 and instead debut on the PlayStation 6.

Beyond working solely on their current game, People Can Fly is also teaming up with The Coalition to produce Gears of War: E-Day, the newest installment in the series that was unveiled last year.
