Sony Bravia Theater U Review

Sony Bravia Theater U Review

As a seasoned gamer and tech enthusiast, I’ve tried my fair share of audio devices to enhance my gaming experience. But nothing quite compares to the Sony Bravia Theater U. At first glance, it might seem like an odd-looking gadget with its shoulder-mounted speakers. However, once you give it a try, you’ll quickly realize that looks can be deceiving.

The Sony Bravia Theater U may seem odd-looking, but its features surpass its quirky design. A built-in shoulder speaker system could have been dismissed as a mere gimmick, providing only muffled sound and discomfort. However, the Sony Bravia Theater U exceeded my expectations.

Sony Bravia Theater U Setup and Sound Quality

Sony’s Bravia Theater U works exactly as you might expect. You put the device on your shoulders, connect it via a few options, and then the audio envelops you. There isn’t a lot more to it, but what’s so impressive is its audio quality and precision. For a $300 price tag, one would hope that the Bravia Theater U would sound good but that isn’t always a given with pricier audio devices.

The good news is that video games, movies, TV, and music all come through with superb clarity and the Theater U does an excellent job of delivering the precise surround sound experience that speakers offer. I don’t have a Sony Bravia TV to be able to test the 360 Spatial Surround Sound that the device supports, but just connected to Bluetooth everything sounded great. Movies were more immersive, I could pinpoint the direction of sound effects in games, and it was great to just lay back and enjoy some music at the end of a long day.

Gamers can enjoy seamless connectivity for their controllers via Bluetooth or opt for a wired connection using the DualSense PS5 controller. The advantage of this wired option is that it enables the Bravia Theater U to access the console’s Tempest 3D Audio profile, resulting in a more detailed and immersive sound experience. Although the Theater U does not support PlayStation Link like some other headsets, connecting through the controller instead is still a viable solution.

The Bravia Theater U is Impressive Wearable Tech

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in gaming and media experiences, I can confidently say that the Bravia Theater U from Sony truly stands out from other audio devices. It’s not just about the sound quality – yes, you can get good audio reproduction with many other gaming headsets. But what sets the Bravia Theater U apart is its ability to make you feel like you are right in the heart of the action, without any discomfort or strain on your ears or head.

From my perspective as a fan, while using headphones offers unparalleled privacy for an immersive experience, the Bravia Theater U’s focused audio is less distracting to those nearby compared to a speaker system. I can comfortably sit around six feet away from someone, and the sound will be muffled enough for them to concentrate on their task. For those desiring to share the Bravia Theater U’s experience with another person, the tech includes a “Speaker Add” function that synchronizes audio between two devices. Additionally, it supports multi-point Bluetooth connection, allowing you to seamlessly switch between listening to two different devices.

The Sony Bravia Theater U comes equipped with a built-in microphone, capable of facilitating voice chats and calls. However, its sound quality is satisfactory but doesn’t quite match that of more premium headsets.

As a tech enthusiast and someone who values high-quality audio for my media consumption, I’ve had the opportunity to try out Sony’s Bravia Theater U headphones, and I must admit, at first glance, they may not strike you as the most stylish or eye-catching. However, once you give them a chance, you’ll be blown away by their exceptional audio performance.

The Sony Bravia Theater U is available now for $299.
