Sony DMCA’s Bloodborne Patch That Runs the Game at 60FPS

Sony, the company behind Sony Interactive Entertainment, has issued a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice to the individual who developed a modification (mod) enabling the game to operate at 60 frames per second (60FPS).

Lance McDonald, who is known for creating the 60FPS mod for Bloodborne (previously Twitter), shared that he released this patch on February 21st, 2021, allowing the game to run at 60fps. Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment sent him a DMCA takedown notice, asking him to remove links to the patch he had shared online. As a result, he has taken down those links.

For those interested, Lance also provided a video on how the patch works:

Straight away, the DMCA notice, relating to a mod approaching its fourth year, ignited discussions online about potential implications. Some enthusiasts hypothesized that it might signal Sony preparing an official update, while others suggested possibilities like a remaster or remake in celebration of the game’s tenth anniversary.

Some individuals, on the other hand, view it as merely a large collaboration engaging in typical collaborative activities, implying it likely holds no significant meaning.

Initially launched in March 2015, Bloodborne garnered widespread praise from reviewers across the board. As of February 2022, the game has sold around 7.5 million copies, translating to significant commercial triumph.
