Summary
- PSVR 2 price has been reduced to $399.99 for base model and game bundle, making it more affordable.
- Sony’s price cut should boost PSVR 2 sales amidst the lack of major game announcements in the recent State of Play.
- PSVR 2 can also be used on PC via a special adapter.
Sony is planning to lower the prices of the PlayStation VR2 and its packages permanently starting in March, an action aimed at encouraging more individuals to try it out.
The high price point of the PSVR 2 has been a significant deterrent for many Sony fans, as its base model costs more than the PS5, necessitating ownership of the console to utilize the headset. This pricing issue has contributed to hesitance among Sony fans to invest in the new VR technology, even after it was equipped with a PC adapter.
It’s great to see that Sony is addressing the muted reception towards PSVR 2 by announcing some exciting changes. As per an update on the PlayStation Blog, they plan to reduce the price of PSVR 2 starting from March.
PlayStation VR2 Is Finally Slashing Its Price

The basic PSVR 2 package (consisting of the headset, controller, and earphones) now costs only $399.99 or £399.99, marking a significant decrease from its previous price of $549.00 or £529.00.
The PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Package, which comes with everything from the basic version along with a VR Horizon game code, retails at $399.99/£399.99/€449.99. Essentially, unless you already own the game, there’s little reason not to grab this particular deal.
This price reduction is certainly beneficial, even though some fans perceive it as a sign of Sony giving up and trying to get rid of excess inventory. The recent State of Play presentation, however, seemed rather sparse when it came to PSVR 2 games, which might lead one to conclude that there aren’t any significant titles under development at the moment.
It’s likely that a decrease in PSVR 2’s price will encourage more enthusiasts to try out virtual reality, as they’ll find it more affordable. Additionally, since it can link to PC using a specific adapter, this device could potentially run other games down the line, even if Sony decides to discontinue the hardware in the future.
