Sony recently launched three new cover options for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and its DualSense controllers, offering gamers vibrant and colorful choices. Since its release in late 2020, the PS5 has been a hit, outselling the Xbox Series X/S. With over 84 million units sold, the PS5 is gaining on the Nintendo Switch, and Sony experienced strong sales during the 2025 holiday season. Sony continues to offer a variety of ways for fans to personalize their PS5.
Since its release, the PlayStation 5 has seen two updated models: the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. The Slim is a more compact version of the original, and Sony offers a separate, attachable disc drive for those who want it. The PS5 Pro is a powerful upgrade, featuring a much faster processor, increased storage, and noticeable improvements to many games. Plus, PS5 owners can now customize their consoles and controllers with three new cover options.
PS5 Has Three New Console Colors Coming This Year
Sony has announced a new line of accessories for the PS5 called “Hyperpop,” featuring colorful console covers and DualSense controllers. Each cover has a unique gradient design, blending from black at the top to a vibrant neon color – red, green, or blue – at the bottom. The promotional images showcase the covers on the new, Slim PS5 model, and it’s currently unknown if they will also be available for the upcoming PS5 Pro. Pre-orders begin January 16th, and the covers will officially be released on March 12th.
Sony’s new, colorful console covers for the PS5 aren’t a first – the company has offered ways to customize the console’s look before. They’ve previously released different colored plates to replace the standard white one. Sony also frequently partners with well-known brands and games to create special edition controllers, such as the recent collaboration with Genshin Impact. Last year, to celebrate the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, they even released a limited-edition grey PS5 inspired by the original console.

Sony is releasing new covers for the PlayStation 5 to celebrate a fantastic 2025 for the console. 2025 was the PS5’s fifth anniversary year, and sales exceeded 80 million units by August. A major PlayStation exclusive, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, was also recognized as a Game of the Year contender at the 2025 Game Awards. In a surprising move, the PS5 also saw the arrival of popular Xbox franchises like Forza Horizon 5 (April) and Gears of War: Reloaded (August), marking their debut on PlayStation.
Following a successful 2025, the PS5 is poised for another strong year in 2026. Several highly anticipated exclusive games, such as Marvel’s Wolverine and Phantom Blade Zero, are scheduled to launch throughout the year. Plus, major multi-platform titles like the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 and Resident Evil: Requiem are also coming to the console. In a surprising move, Sony will even be getting Halo: Campaign Evolved, a game previously exclusive to Xbox. With so much planned, 2026 looks like a fantastic year for PS5 and its fans.
