Summary
- Sony has developed an AI prototype for Horizon’s Aloy to engage in conversation with users using advanced tech.
- Key players in the gaming industry are actively developing AI-based models and prototypes for various purposes.
- PlayStation could use AI technology for interactive storytelling.
A leaked detail reveals that Sony has created an AI prototype capable of adopting the character persona of Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, enabling interactive dialogue with users. While just one character has been unveiled following this trial, there’s speculation that Sony may intend to utilize this technology with other popular characters such as Kratos, Joel, Ellie, and numerous others once it becomes available for public use.
It’s evident that while some of the major gaming companies may have been relatively secretive about their advancements thus far, they are indeed actively working on AI-driven models and prototypes to reach diverse objectives. For instance, Microsoft’s Muse AI model has been honed using Ninja Theory’s Bleeding Edge to create playable games that serve to preserve classic titles. Now, it seems Sony is readying its own approach to AI technology.
According to an article published by The Verge, Sony is experimenting with AI chat models, and their current mascots might represent whatever products the company eventually releases. A video of this project leaked online after a confidential tip-off about Sony’s recent research activities. In the clip, Sharwin Raghoebardajal, who is a director of software engineering at Sony Interactive Entertainment, interacts with an AI-powered version of Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, developed in partnership with Guerrilla Games.
Sony AI Prototype Video Leaks
In simpler terms, Raghoebardajal talks with Aloy, inquiring about her well-being before mentioning a possible joke about having a sore throat to explain a different voice. After exchanging casual remarks, Raghoebardajal asks about Aloy’s background, and she discusses her adventures, bringing up events from the Horizon series. To create this realistic dialogue, Sony combined OpenAI’s Whisper, GPT-4, Meta’s Llama 3, and their Emotional Voice Synthesis technology. This innovative model can understand what is being said, make choices, and respond with fitting vocal and facial expressions to foster conversation. Although many have watched the video, reactions have been mixed, and Muso, a copyright protection company connected to Sony, took down the source after filing a claim.
There are various paths that Sony’s PlayStation might take with AI technology like this. For instance, an AI model similar to Aloy could answer questions about her game’s world, providing more information based on prompts and filling in story gaps. This could potentially serve as a way for players to catch up on stories if they’ve missed something. In a practical sense, this model might replace or collaborate with the PS5 Game Help feature, but it could also be utilized for events, exhibits, and more. At present, it appears that Sony is not ready to publicly unveil this technology yet.
