Sophie Turner Injury Halts Tomb Raider Series Production

Production on the Amazon Prime Video series Tomb Raider has temporarily stopped after Sophie Turner, the show’s lead actress, was injured. While Turner, who plays Lara Croft, is expected to make a full recovery, filming has been paused to give her time to heal.

I first really noticed Sophie Turner when she was Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones – she was amazing and everyone loved her! She’s done a lot of other cool stuff too, like playing Jean Grey in the X-Men movies, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. But I was so excited to hear she’s going to be Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider series on Amazon Prime Video! It’s her second project with Amazon, following a show called Steal, so they clearly like working with her.

Tomb Raider Production Suffers Setback After Sophie Turner’s Injury

Amazon MGM Studios has stated that Sophie Turner sustained a minor injury. Production on the project has been temporarily halted to give her time to heal, and they hope to restart filming soon.

Daisy Turner’s newest role is in a project based on the well-known video game series featuring Lara Croft, the adventurous archaeologist previously played in films by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. She stars with a talented cast including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.

I’m really excited about this new series! Phoebe Waller-Bridge – you probably know her from Killing Eve and Fleabag – is leading the charge as the creator, a writer, and one of the executive producers. She’s sharing showrunning duties with Chad Hodge, and Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing and also executive producing. It’s a huge collaborative effort, with Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and a lot of talented people like Jenny Robins from Wells Street Films and the team at Story Kitchen all involved as executive producers. Matt McInnis is co-executive producing, and Jan R. Martin is producing – it sounds like a really strong team behind the scenes.

The series is being produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios, according to a statement.

All We Know About The Tomb Raider Reboot So Far

Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series is gaining momentum. On January 15th, Amazon MGM Studios released the first official look at Taylor Turner as Lara Croft. The series is highly anticipated for Amazon Prime Video, and Turner has expressed respect for the actresses who previously played the role – Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander – stating that she feels confident with Phoebe Waller-Bridge leading the project, and that both she and Lara Croft are in good hands.

Waller-Bridge’s statement reads:

As a lifelong fan, I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Sophie Turner will be taking on the iconic role of Lara Croft in our new series! It’s a dream come true to work on a project of this magnitude, especially with a character I’ve admired since childhood. And let me tell you, the entire team is buzzing with energy – they’re as adventurous, daring, and funny as Lara herself. Start dusting off your relics, folks, because Lara Croft is on her way!

I’m still waiting to find out exactly what happened to Turner – whether they were hurt while filming or not. Everyone’s also wondering how long production on Tomb Raider will be paused because of this.
