At last, I can’t contain my excitement! The much-anticipated “South of Midnight” is officially set to drop. It was during the Xbox Developer Direct event on a chilly Thursday in 2025 when Compulsion Games finally unveiled the release date – April 8th, a day that feels like an eternity away but also can’t come soon enough!
Once it’s released, you can find South of Midnight on Xbox Series X|S, personal computers (PC), and through Xbox Game Pass.
South of Midnight hails from the creators of We Happy Few, and transports players into the heartland of the American South. In this game, you assume the role of Hazel, who transforms into a Weaver following a devastating storm in her hometown of Prospero. As explained by Compulsion Games, a Weaver is an enchanting figure responsible for healing frayed relationships and troubled souls.
Equipped with these fresh skills, Hazel is ready to face and overpower harmful beings, unravel the complexities of her family’s collective history, and hopefully discover a location that feels comfortingly familiar.
To the south of midnight marks Compulsion Games’ debut title under the Xbox Game Studios banner, having been an independent studio prior to its acquisition by Xbox in 2018. The game was initially unveiled in June 2023, with its first gameplay trailer following a year later in June 2024. It was during this period that the release window for 2025 was also announced, with a definitive launch date being set during Developer Direct.
