South of Midnight: Xbox Game Pass Release Date Revealed!

Summary

  • South of Midnight will be released on April 8, 2025.
  • The Southern Gothic action adventure will launch for the Xbox Series X/S and PC.
  • PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play South of Midnight on day one.

The game titled “South of Midnight” is scheduled for release on April 8, 2025. Just like other Microsoft-developed games, this title will be accessible to PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers right from the launch date, or potentially even earlier if they opt for its Premium Edition.

The game titled “South of Midnight” was unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase in mid-June 2023. This action-adventure, set in a Southern Gothic backdrop, is the third project from Canadian studio Compulsion Games. Their earlier works include the puzzle platformer “Contrast,” released in 2013, and the immersive sim-like title “We Happy Few,” launched in 2018.

After approximately five years in development, the game “South of Midnight” was given a release date during the 2025 edition of Xbox Developer Direct. At the January 23 event, Compulsion Games announced that their upcoming title is slated for market launch on April 8. This release date was unveiled at the conclusion of a three-minute trailer, which provided a glimpse into “South of Midnight“‘s narrative and offered another peek at its Southern Gothic setting.

South of Midnight Pre-Orders Are Now Live, and More Affordable Than Expected

As a gamer excitedly anticipating the upcoming release, I’m thrilled to share that the announcement of the release date for “South of Midnight” has been accompanied by the start of pre-orders! You can secure your copy right now on Steam or the Xbox Store. Unlike many modern games that kick off at around $60, “South of Midnight” is coming in under budget, with its basic version set at just $39.99. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the only game showcased during the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 event with a price tag lower than the norm. The January 23rd event also revealed “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” priced at an affordable $49.99. Can’t wait to get my hands on these budget-friendly titles!

South of Midnight Premium Edition Offers 5 Days of Early Access

The game “South of Midnight” is also offering a Premium Edition for $49.99, featuring digital copies of the game’s artbook, soundtrack, and Rob Guillory’s comic book “The Boo-Hag”. Additionally, you’ll get a music video, documentary, and early access for five days. Members of PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can buy a $10 Premium Edition Upgrade starting April 3 to play the game as part of their subscriptions. The reason for this relatively low price could be because “South of Midnight” is expected to only take about 12 hours to complete, based on the official estimate from Compulsion Games.

During the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 event, we got a sneak peek at two exciting games: “Doom: The Dark Ages” and “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”. Both of these games were given specific release dates – May 15 for “Doom: The Dark Ages”, while “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” will be available from April 24.

Microsoft also unveiled some exciting news during their first showcase of the year. They announced not one, but two new Ninja Gaiden games – “Ninja Gaiden 4” and a surprise release called “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black”. The latter was immediately made available for PC, console players, and those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
