Summary
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2‘s co-op party size will remain limited to three players.
- The upcoming update for the game will introduce a new co-op Siege mode.
- Saber Interactive has no plans to increase the player cap beyond three due to difficulty balancing in the game.
Contrary to some fans’ hopes, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will not enlarge its cooperative play group beyond three individuals, as confirmed by the developers. This follows the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, developed by Relic, which also had a campaign limited to three players. Focus Entertainment, the game’s publisher, has revealed plans for a new co-op Siege mode in an upcoming update.
Space Marine 2″ is an action-packed third-person shooter game that emphasizes cooperative play. It’s set in a dark, dystopian universe created by Games Workshop, where the Imperium is engaged in a fierce struggle against the Tyranid alien horde from Hive Fleet Leviathan. The story follows Lieutenant Titus, a high-ranking soldier of the Ultramarines chapter, as he battles both the Tyranid swarm and traitorous Space Marines known as Chaos Marines.
In a chat with IGN, the Creative Chief of Saber, Tim Willits, revealed that the sequel to “Space Marine” will stick to its player cap of three. Although increasing the limit wasn’t part of the game’s official development plan, fans had envisioned that the new horde-style Siege mode in “Space Marine 2” might allow more players. However, Willits explained that balancing enemy difficulty for four players proved too challenging to execute.
Saber Keeps Space Marine 2’s Player Limit
It appears that technical constraints haven’t been cited, given that modders have found a way around this issue using the modding tools for “Space Marine 2“. The main reason for limiting the player count to three is to maintain a suitable level of game difficulty. Willits explained that four players would make the challenges overly simple due to their combined efforts against common enemies.
Willits, in his statement, mentioned that there are currently no intentions to expand the player limit beyond its current number in Space Marine 2. However, an enthusiastic modding community has been actively restructuring the game’s fundamental design. Already, a modder group has unveiled a 12-player cooperative mode for Space Marine 2, significantly surpassing the original three-player limit.
Additional modifications have been introduced to enhance the gameplay, ranging from the Power Axe to Thomas the Tank Engine in Space Marine 2. With the vast scope for large-scale conflicts and numerous additional features in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, there might be a chance that the modding community could convince Saber Interactive to reconsider the possibility of expanding the game.
