Space Marine 2: Fencing Explained

Space Marine 2: Fencing Explained

As a seasoned Space Marine veteran with countless battles against the Tyranids under my belt, I can confidently say that the defensive styles in Space Marine 2‘s melee combat are a game-changer. The fencing style, in particular, has become my go-to for those close and fast-paced encounters. With its wider parry window, it makes executions a breeze and keeps me alive longer in the heat of battle.

In the thrilling world of Space Marine 2, melee combat takes center stage in its intricate battle system. Although it’s not mandatory, engaging in melee fights is essential for regenerating health and executing enemies restores your armor. Particularly when encountering the Tyranids, their relentless charges demand that you always have a reliable melee weapon at hand – it could very well be the difference between victory and defeat!

As you upgrade your melee weapons in Operations, there will be various stat pros and cons that add choices between which path to take on a weapon. On top of just the base stats, all melee weapons have defensive profiles; Block, Balanced, and Fencing. These defensive styles determine how your melee weapon works, and should be considered just as much as the change in stats.

What Is Fencing In Space Marine 2

In the process of enhancing a melee weapon, Fencing is one of the three defensive styles it can acquire, with Block and Balanced being the other two. Employing a weapon with the Fencing style expands the opportunity for players to effectively deflect incoming enemy attacks by widening the parry window. This means that precise parries followed by successful executions will become more effortless to achieve. However, it’s important to note that if your weapon has the Fencing style, its ability to withstand incoming damage when blocking takes a hit.

The defensive style of a weapon also determines the combos it can perform, which vary from weapon to weapon and can be seen in the main menu when a melee weapon is equipped. Blocking and Fencing are the two sides of defense in melee combat, with balance of course being in the middle, and it’s up to the player’s preference which is best. Fencing can be found on any melee weapon, and there are also Balanced or Block choices for most of the later rarity upgrades for a weapon.

Every Fencing Melee Weapon Upgrade In Space Marine 2

To sum it up, Space Marine 2 offers a total of five melee weapons, all featuring several enhancements that incorporate aspects of fencing. By default, each weapon is evenly balanced; however, players will likely need to upgrade most weapons at least once or twice before they can unlock the fencing features.
