Or, in another way:

This handbook will disclose the story’s key plot points about Naosuke Ii, along with the different conclusions to the Sakurada Gate Incident.

Rise of the Ronin: Sakurada Gate Incident Choices

Following a brief skirmish with the Red Demon’s guards, players will eventually engage in a dual boss battle against him and the Blue Demon (Akikatsu Manabe). Defeating both characters will trigger a cinematic sequence, presenting you with an option to either kill or spare Naosuke Ii. Meanwhile, Sakamoto and the others will keep the remaining enemy forces at bay.

Kill the Red Demon

If you choose to assassinate Naosuke Ii, your character will instantly decapitate him, mirroring the outcome of the actual Sakuradamon Incident from 1860. The game’s storyteller will then reference this historical event, and the scene shifts to a depiction of a hairpin resting on blood-stained snow.

By defeating the Red Demon, gamers can acquire the Gikei-ryu Shinobi Fighting Technique, which is the same method used by the Blue Demon. But bear in mind that this path involves the death of the Blue Demon as well. Therefore, if players eliminate Naosuke Ii, they will no longer be able to further advance the Gikei-ryu style in the future.

Spare the Red Demon

Should you choose to spare Naosuke Ii, your character will perform a dramatic downward sword slash, only to halt at the brink of impact. This momentary pause allows the Blue Demon to regain strength and flee with the Red Demon. Following the mission, a cutscene unfolds displaying that despite being deprived of his title and shunned in society, Ii ultimately meets his end at the hands of your Blade Twin, the player.

The game will continue amicably with Ryoma, but your choice may affect the other anti-shogunate faction members’ feelings towards you. On the plus side, you’ll acquire the Blue Demon’s Mask and the Awagutchi Tadatsuna katana instead of mastering the Gikei-ryu stance.

In the game, ‘Rise of the Ronin’, if you find yourself doubting your decision or yearning for all the rewards, you have the opportunity to redo missions. To do this, navigate to the Longhouse and opt for the ‘Testament of the Soul‘ feature. During this process, you can decide whether to alter the course of events based on previous actions or stick with your original timeline while playing through again.
